Do you choose to borrow a book or buy it?

For me, it's buy a book and i buy atleast 25-35 new books a year... it's like a hobby for me. I seldom borrow a book since i have this notion that i have to be very careful with it because it's not mine. however, with borrowing, i know i can save money if ever i don't like the book, i can simply return and won't be ending up with a bum buys. i hate bums buys! LOL how aboutyou?

im not really into books (only if i like the story or the topic) so i would just borrow it if i am in a research or something.. buying books is not that practical because they are expensive. But if you are bookaholic, and collect books as a hobby, well maybe buying would not be expensive for you.

Oh, I would definitely understand your statement. I know that you are not that much into books at all. I am into certain books I rent from the library. Of course, I have lots of books at home.

This is going to sound strange but I never borrow a book Not even from the Library. I only read books that I really enjoy and if I do get a book I am not to fond of I give it to someone I think will enjoy it. Books to me are friends that have helped me through some bad times and to give my favorites away is like being ungrateful.

I think that's a good hobby. But I seldom buy some books from bookstore.Because I prefer reading book on the internet. Borrowing book is also a good idea I think, and if your home is not far away from library. My home is far away,so I think the internet will be a best way for me to read books.

Growing up I'd be a regular at the library. I guess I got a lot of practice in at that time for when I'd be grown up and go to the bookstore. I still use the same strategy as I did then. Start at one corner and then move along till you end up where you started. You see I have a big problem. I happen to be interested in a lot of things so I'm never looking for just one particular book. And anyway sometimes you spot something that was put in a wrong place and it turns out to be "just what you needed". However I do have to admit that I do prefer being able to keep a book. Especially if it's a good one. If it's not really what I expected then I guess I just had a bad hair day that time.

I do too choose to buy books instead of borrowing one. I love books and it would be unpleasant for my part not if I would return books that I love to read again and again in the future.

If money is not an issue, I prefer to buy. I try to stay away from bookstores, because I cannot resist. I would usually end up spending far more than I should. To feed my reading addiction, I get my books out of the local public library. However, when I find a book/s that I really enjoyed and want to be part of my collection, then I go out and buy. Whatever way I can, I just love to have plenty of books.

I visit sometimes every week, sometimes every other week. The good thing about the library is that we can keep the books for 21 days, and we have no limit to the number of books that we can borrow.

I don't like to borrow books either unless its from the library. Unfortunately our library is limited on new books. If I can't find what I want I check half.com and see if they have it. If not I will try Books a Million. If I'm in a hurry I may check there first.

I really don't have a favorite author. I usually read biographies, self help, inspirational books, etc. I look more for topics of interest than a certain author.

I get mine from thrift stores. I rarely find a book I don't like. I read a lot, maybe 30 or so a week, so I have to get them used. Of course, I am always re-reading my favorites.

Being an avid writer, I read a lot to keep up to speed with whats currently selling in market as well as for pleasure. I write in my books a lot.. I try and use post-its and page markers but I end up scribbling (in pencil) in the margines 90% of the time - so needless to say, I always buy my books. I shell out thousands of dollars on books every year i'm sure. Though I try to stay away from bog chain stores, I end up there when I have a specific book in mind that I need/want. There is a little locally owns buy/sell used book store here that I go into 4 or 5 times a week because it is so well priced. It's VERY unorganzined - there are piles of books everywhere, but you can find some great little gems there.

"Suspense" - any book that has great suspense. While in school, I covered all the detective series in the library. Nowadays, they include mysteries, inspirational and romance.

I borrow and buy. My mother and I belong to a circle of friends and we pass books around among us. A couple of us belong to book clubs and after we read our new books, we pass them along. It is a great way to read a wide variety of genres. Although there are certain authors that I just don't let go of and those books always come back to me after the other ladies are finished. I always really enjoy going to yard sales and looking for books. Sometimes you can get a whole box of books for a dollar. I found two second edition Sherlock Holmes books for two dollars each one time. Of course, I bought them and read them(not my favorite). My oldest(11) has enjoyed reading them though.

hi there...good for you that you can trade it.. in my case, if i don't like it, i simply dump them in a bag and give it away on Christmas... makes it very wasteful for me... what book genres do you like?

I prefer to buy a book over borrowing it. I rarely ever borrowed a book from the library as I was always worried I might misplace it or it would get damaged somehow. Even though I have taken good care of the books I did buy, I still couldn't help worrying that it might happen if I were to borrow a book.

Hi shiloh! I always buy books. the only time that I've borrowed one was in the university library for a project. I don't really like borrowing books from friends or others for that matter. I love books and I love reading books. I have like bookshelves full of m collection of books since I can read and appreciate it. :) Cheers!

My favorites as a child were the Disney fairy tales and the Berenstein Bears. I've also a Lady Bug collection of books. :) Then when I was in grade school I started reading Sweet Valley pocketbooks and Goosebumps. From there, I've appreciated almost all kinds of books.

I use the public library for just regular reading. There are some books that I buy new, but not that many. I collect old books, though, and will shell out the money for them. Most of them are classics of one type or another. But I don't just buy books I want to read...too expensive.

That's interesting! I will only buy hardback's. I have just never liked paperbacks. Children's books is one of the categories I collect, also. I have around 300 books. Not a great amount, but I'm very picky! lol At the library, I mostly read new novels by authors I like or authors that are completly new to me. Sometimes I borrow cookbooks, do-it-yourself books, books on crafts, etc. I've always loved going to the library.

I would much rather buy my own copy. As for borrowing, I rarely borrow books from friends. I used to borrow from my school and university a lot, but now that I'm no longer in school, I don't think I've borrowed any books from anyone at all. I'm also really obsessive-compulsive with my books, in which I don't crease the spine when I read it, so when I got this new Sherlock Holmes Vol. 1, I just read our university library's old copy and kept mine in pristine condition. I also don't let people borrow my books. Hehehe, I'm really paranoid about my books getting damaged.

Hello Shiloh...afraid i used to "judge the book by it's cover",literally! so i can certainly relate to 'bum buys'. I let myself get conned into buying pretty books yet crappy reads. Now, i tend to borrow them..or would sit & read first chapters of pretty books at bookstores...if they happen to be pageturners & seem promising enough to become one of my "Favorites" ...i pretty much buy 'em.
