Just how big/small is the range of Maltese?

I have two Maltese babies. One is 7.1 pounds, the other is a mere 5 pounds. Just how large or small do these precious ones get? I'm curious because my little 5 pound sweetie feels as light as a feather when I pick her up and I can't imagine one smaller. If there are smaller ones, I just might have to add to my family. I have a cousin who has one over 9 pounds. I thought that was extremely large for a Maltese. By the way, these are all registered Maltese... no mixed breeds.

According to the American Kennel Club, the "standard" weight for a Maltese is under 7 lbs, preferably between 4 and 6 lbs. However, I have seen many Maltese dogs between 4 lbs and 8 lbs.

Wow! I didn't realize they could be so tiny! Four pounds! I have a five pound Maltese and a seven pound gal. My cousin has one that actually weighs 9 pounds! I think he's a mutant. LOL He's purebred and has his papers, but I thought it was so unusual for a Maltese to be so large. Thanks for the great information!
