How do you end up there?

You know I recently have been out driving alot. As I am driving down the road I see all kinds of beautiful house, some simple, some big, and some small. It crosses my mind often how do you get there? I mean I know you have to work for things in life, but to me right now it seems so far away, and even working with 2 small children and bills the moneys gone. Do you own your own house? HOw did you get there? And how long did it take you?
