How do you feel...

For those of you who have been to Las Vegas, or anywhere similar, that has places where animals are used for magic shows... Have you ever seen the animals all caged up between the shows? I visited my mother in Vegas when she lived there and we were walking through some of the hotels and casinos. We came to the one (forget the name) that has the white tigers... what a sad sight. They had these tigers pacing back and forth in these little glass "showcases" with no food and no water and it broke my heart into a thousand pieces. I hate the idea of using animals for entertainment in the first place, but to keep them pent up like that just to "display" them for tourists and drunk people... I couldn't look and it brought tears to my eyes. Anyone ever see anything like this? How do you feel about it? How do you feel about animals used for entertainment like that?

In India law restricts display or use of animals in any sort of shows. Animals were mostly used in Circus shows mostly for entertainment of children. The training procedure for animals have never been very courteous. I recently learnt from a local newspaper that in order to tame wild elephant, they are tied to a pole and forced to stand over a bed full of thorns. They are forced to live in their confinement for few days without any food or water. Now initially that elephant tries to break down their enclosure only to get injured and finally succumb to their human trainers. This explains the simple fact that when you see an animal sitting calmly in its cage, you must not forget the cruel underlying training procedure that it must have gone through before being displayed. I, therefore, strongly against display of animals in a cage for public entertainment. It really shocks me a lot and I tend to get emotional. Fortunately, implementation of this law in India is very strict and Circus parties have totally stopped displaying animals. Besides strict vigilance is maintained to look after compliance of that law in local zoos as well. Therefore, at least in this regard the story is hopeful.

Yes! If anybody desires to see animals why not visit them at their natural habitat!

Kind of funny (or not) that when a wild animal shows up in our cities, we want to kill it, but when we show up in their habitat we expect them not to kill us... and if they try, then they are suddenly seen as OUT OF CONTROL lol... humans

I wish it was like that everywhere. I don't understand the appeal of seeing abused animals at all.

I have not been to Vegas and if I did I would never go to one of those shows. In the U.K. animal acts are against law. No animals can be used for entertainment other than in activities like horse riding or exhibition dogs which have been properly trained. Most wild animals are protected by law and cannot be kept in captivity without a licence. Shows that use animals like lions and tigers belong in the past, like dancing bears and fighting cockerels. It is wrong to make any animal behave in a way that is not natural. I can't understand why this is still allowed to go on.

That's what I'm saying!! People here just don't seem to think it is a big deal. They enjoy this kind of stuff. I find it disgusting. I could never go to a show like that... I agree that it belongs in the past. Why don't people realize that it is wrong to take an animal out of it's natural habitat just to do some dumb tricks for humans to ooh and ahh at. And then of course when the animals attack or try to escape, they are beaten or killed and talked about as if they are OUT OF CONTROL and need to be TAMED. They're a freaking WILD ANIMAL. What do you expect??

I've been to Las Vegas but I've never seen these shows. I have heard about them and it sounds pretty bad. I think animals should be treated with respect and be comfortable. Tigers just aren't meant to be put in small cages. I love going to the zoo but the zoo near here gives the animals big areas to roam and just puts a fence around it. They are fed and watered regularly. I think if someone was drunk and taunting the animals they would be thrown out pretty quick.

I don't like zoos. I used to when I was a kid, but I guess now I only really like the idea of trying to save endangered species by keeping them in captivity (even then, I am iffy about it), otherwise I find it unnecessary.
