You've probably heard the saying, "One man's trash is another mans treasure." It might be true. I'm not a hard core bargain hunter but when I've had garage sales people came from all over to help me get rid of my stuff. So, do you stop and shop when you see a garage sale?

I usually do if I have the time. I love going to garage sales. You never know what treasures you might find. I always tell myself that I never need anything more, but when I start looking, I usually start spending. I also love going to places like goodwill. Some people just don't want to deal with all that clutter in their house, so you never know what kind of good quality things you may find.

Welcome to myLot and thanks for responding! I've found stuff that I had when I was a kid at garage sales. I'm not a bargainer though, I'll pay what they ask. I usually donate to Goodwill, I've shopped there too.

Looking at garage sales is so fun because even if you don't find something it's neat to just look, but when you do, its like finding something you didn't know you needed.

I can't even afford to go garage saling anymore. Instead, we go AFTER the sale is over and they put all the stuff in the garbage. We find alot of good things they throw out and then we sell them ourselves.

I didn't miss you being we found a goldmine in your garbage. Thanks for the stuff. They brought in a nice sum of money at the sale. FREE is what it's all about for us. I grabbed practically a whole wardrobe for hubby and I once out of one haul.

Hey neighbor, I've missed you since we moved! There a rule, if you put free on it people won't take it but if you place a dollar amount on it, it'll be gone in a flash.

I've been antiquing too, but garage sales offer more of a buying experience, if it breaks I'm out a few bucks unlike an antique.

There have been times when I wanted or needed to buy something and thought "I could probably find it at a garage sale". But, when I actually see a garage sale, I can't remember what I wanted and don't stop to browse. I will browse the thrift shops if I am looking for something, first, and I know that the money I spend is going to a good cause.

Sometimes I find things I wasn't looking for and forget what I was browsing for, or is it the other way around?

Hi,
I do stop and shop at garage sales. It is basically one of the side ventures I do. I shop at garage sales and pick things up quite cheap. I then take them home and fix them up. After I have fixed them up I then put them for sale on ebay. I have made quite a bit of money doing this. :)
cheers

At a garage sale you can find some of the most unique things for a good price. That's like people cleaning house and letting go of the good things cause they want to make room for other stuff. I haven't been to one in a while but i live in a state that has them quite often.

Set your alarm early, it's getting warmer and people love to get rid of stuff they don't want anymore.

yes I do! I've gone to some garage sales at big estate neighborhoods, and have found things with the tags still on the items,I guess because they can afford to not ever wear it or use it lol. But I normally find some really good things! THey are also something fun to do espically in nice weather!

Sounds like you show your garage sale shopper "badge" when you arrive.

I do love them. At one time I would carry the paper and a map to go on these ventures. I don't get that involved anymore, but I still can't resist. I usually find some kind of little treasure for myself or a family member. The one thing that gets me upset are the sales that don't have prices on the items and you have to keep asking the prices. I've been to some sales that I think the people were really just trying to make money off of garbage that should have been discarded many years ago.

Instead of a map of stars homes you had a treasure map. When I had a garage sale I marked everything, I hate that too about people not marking things, it does take time but not that much. If they were selling trash I would call the garbage truck for a annonymous pickup. :)

I've found some really good stuff too, the best sales are in the nice neighborhoods, they don't know what they are getting rid of.

I will if i have the time to, because you know what they say- you can find something really rare, and no one will thnik so, and... you can rip them off.. it's mean but you get profit.

Get well soon! My mom is a fanatic, she'll hit 10 garage sales before most people get out of bed, of course her garage reflects what her passion is.

Garage sales can be really good places to find interesting things and not to bad of prices, and I have stopped at a garage sale or two,but mostly around here we have just yard sales, and my mom and our old neighbor used to have a garage/yard sale every other weekend, and I would sale a few things every once in a while.

I know, it just fun to look, no pressure to buy, no reason to if you don't want to, and you can haggle. Try that at Macy's.

I used to. I love a good yard sale or garage sale but now we live full time in our camper. That means we have very little room for anything extra. I will stop on occasion sometimes to see if they have any lawn chairs or something I might be able to use but not often anymore.

We travel a lot and keep our lives in a 5 X 8 U-haul, so garage saling isn't in the cards for us either, unless its something little and we can store in a ring box. :)

for me this would depend on what i want or need. i dont think i would look in a garage sale for things like clothing. but if were talking about maybe finding a bike or used movies, i might be more inclined to stop in and see what they have. you just have to be really careful because sometimes people try to sell you things that are not of good quality or in good condition. so descrecion is a must and always inspect anything with moving parts before you buy them

Amen! I've started countless lawn mowers, looked at CD's and let my kids play with toys just to test run them, using disernment is the key to shopping someone else's stuff.
