Please Help Me With My Avatar!

I've been trying to get rid of the green man. I've gone to the "edit your preferences" page, ticked the box labeled delete current avatar and tried to upload the picture. I'm told that I've uploaded the changes successfully. But the green man won't go away and my picture won't appear. It's so frustrating. ;-( Please help...
