A dog scratched my daughter should I be worried?

My daughter was walking over to the park and this puppy that some people have came bounding after her. It is a big puppy and my daughter knew not to run because it would only make the puppy run more. He jumped up on her and cut her pretty deep and when she turned away he jumped on her back and clawed up her back. Now I know it is just a puppy and if they already hadn't had the momma dog taken away I am not sure I would even give it a second thought. I know if it had bitten her I would make some calls but I don't know a lot about deep scratches. These people really do not watch their dogs and well I doubt they have ever had any shots. What do you think? Should I be worried?

just clean it good and be careful and make sure it doesnt become infected...otherwise i woulnt worry about it. you mentioned though that the momma dog was taken away...im curious as to why and what about it made you worry because of it. i mean im replying based on the information you provided but this brings to mind that there is a hole in this story that your not telling us that might modify our responses. let me know.

It got taken away a number of times because it would go all over town and get in everyone's garage and each time before when it had puppies they got taken away too. Mainly because it was just wandering I am not sure why this time though it didn't come back.

ok. in that case i would be a little more worried about this. if the dog is lose around the nighborghood like that you might seriously think about taking her to the doctor. and you should press charges against the owners since they seem to be so worried about where thier animial is and what it is doing. if your kid catches something from the dog because of it the owners are responsible for the bills and such. sorry if i seemed complacent before about it.

I think you should take your daughter to the doctor for a checkup. And to be on the safe side she should be given a tetenus injection. I dont think this should be ignored.

i would do something as it may just be a puppy now but what happens in a year when the same dog jumps your daughter again or someone else. These people need to watch their dog better.

If It was my daughter I would clean the scratches with soap and water, and I would give a stern talking to,to the people who own the puppy, and tell them that they better watch the dog better, but I wouldnt really worry about the scratches, because scratches will usually heal ,on the other hand if the puppy would have bitten her I would freak out.

Oh dear, well in regards to your daughter first, clean the cut and watch for signs of infection, its doubtfull youd get far if you did file a complaint if all she recieved was scratches especially as this wasnt done out of malice, I understand the concern it will be even less amusing when the dogs fully grown and jumping on young children.
