Do you have health insurance?

It might be through your employer or you purchase it privately for yourself or for your family. My question is if you have it and if you don't, do you plan to get any? Younger people don't have it for various reasons, but we all need to go to the doctor at some time. What are your thoughts, concerns or aggravations.

We have it through my husband's employer, but we're about to start our own company so we'll have to get our own health insurance. I have a few health problems, and he has back issues, so we'll probably keep our current insurance through the COBRA plan while we look into the best policy for us. Neither of my sons have it because they don't earn enough to pay for the premiums, even through work. Personally, I despise insurance companies. It seems that every time you turn around, they're raising the premiums and lowering the benefits. Their profits are enormous and they certainly could afford to be a little more helpful for the people who really need it. On a very personal note, I once had to have an MRI of my shoulder. The insurance company paid for it, but the doctor said they saw something at the very edge of the MRI and needed to do another one. The insurance company said they wouldn't pay because it was not medically necessary. They made it sound like I was in that tin can for 45 minutes because I LIKED it!!! After arguing with them, and getting the doctor involved (he was a surgeon and I ended up needing surgery), they finally paid, but it was a fight, believe me. Even with all of that, insurance is something everyone should have, and I think it's a major crime that the insurance companies will deny you a policy due to existing health issues, something that happened to you a gazillion years ago that is no longer an issue, or because of the geographic area you live in.

Insurance seems to be one of those things that we need but we can't control how much we need. Doctors don't really care about insurance, they've taken an oath to treat you no matter what, but the insurance companies see you as a number. Its a fight I'll agree, insurance is said to be at least $2.00 dollars for every $10.00 spent. Add that up and its a ton of money, but as flawed as our admin system seems to be its much better than other countries. Some other countries go by the have and have not. Best of luck in your new business endeavor.

Doctors don't care about insurance, and they will treat you regardless of whether you have it or not. But they'll go after you to pay that bill! They'll sue you if you don't pay. In some countries, you don't even NEED insurance. The government takes care of all your medical bills. France is one of them. Norway, I believe, is another. Canada and Cuba are others. (Yes, I said Cuba!) There are many, many more countries that do this. They pay a bit more in income tax, but their medical bills are 100% paid for. No co-pays, no premiums, no out-of-network worries. Because of this, the overall health of the citizens of those countries is far better than our own in the U.S. Big subject for me, for sure. Take care!

Yes, I have private health insurance for my family. I like to think that whatever happens, we will not be left too much out of pocket. The premiums we pay do seem a bit rich, but with a young son, it's good to feel a little piece of mind with regards to knowing we can seek top medical care if ever the need arises. Also things like dental can really add up, and I guess some years we really use well over what we've paid out!

I am 47-year-old and I do not have health insurance... I have not made enough money to pay for it as I have been working part-time at a Clinic as a therapist and my employer does not provide it... I am looking for a full-time position and hoping to get health insurance as a benefit. I am unhappy with any health care insurance mandates as they will just be one more expense that most people who do not presently have insurance will not be able to afford. I have not been to a doctor in two or three years. I am in good health.

I'm 40 and I don't have it either. I had to go the ER a few weeks ago and I almost had to go back after I got the bill. I've never been without insurance and its a scary thought.

My daughter and I are on All Kids, basically it's a public aid med. card. Hubby has insurance thru work but costs a fortune to add us to it.

no,i don't have it.just had to pay for 2 operations out-of-pocket too, which sucked.just can't afford it,and most employers around here with the exception of city/fed workers don't offer it. the last time i had insurance i lived in a different state, and they took the equivalent of a full check in fees,so it was often the choice of not having it or getting a second job to have it.

Yup.. I do have a health insurance.. I think that it's important to have one, just in case we need it one day.. It's also like a financial savings for us in a way.. Due to the rising costs of everything in the world now, including medical, surgery, hospitalisation etc, it's safer to get a health insurance, so that when we really need financial help to cover for all the medical bills, our health insurance is there..

WHen I wasyounger I just kind of went with the flow and did what ever my parents said about responsibility. It wasn'tuntil I had my first child that I realized how expensive the world can be. Thankfully we had gotten assistance through the state and now my husbands union offers great benefits as well.
