Do you know of any natural flea remedies?

With spring here and several cats in the house it seems we've gotten ahold of a flea problem. We're doing the vacuuming thing, we've bathed the cats several times in dawn dish liquid as it's natural and helps kill the fleas and get them off of the cats. I've done the lemon juice and rosemary thing and it doesn't seem to be doing much of anything. I think however our problem is a lot worse than the rosemary and lemon juice can handle right now. Right now I have a dish of soapy water sitting where the flea problem is hoping to catch as many jumping fleas as possible so tomorrow I can go in and vacuum again before figuring out what route to take next. Do you know of any natural flea remedies for cats? What have you tried and how long did it take to work? I'm not a fan of chemicals and would like to stay away from them if possible and I know it is it's just a matter of finding the thing that works right now.

I don't know about an animal itself, but if you put eucalyptus leaves under your couch it keeps fleas at bay in your home.

Hi.. I have a good remedy for you and it works at home. My cats just hate chemicals and they react funnily to it. So here's what worked at my home. I made a ginger, garlic paste and mixed it with vinegar and lime. Make a thick paste using water or if you have coconut oil, it works best and then apply it on the fur well enough. Please keep your pets in a dry, well-lit place for about 2 hrs and then wash off neat. The flees must not be seen after you comb the fur. If you are from India or you know about DDT powder, then use it with coconut oil and this too works real great on cat flees. All the best and hope this helps!

Well, you already know of a few of my ideas for all natural remedies but adding them here for others won't hurt. lol Pouring boiling water over two whole lemons and might as well add rosemary to that for the hell of it. Let that steep over night and put that water into a spray bottle and spray down everything. The rosemary alone can repel fleas. There was a vinegar one too. You place so much into your pet's drinking water and that was supposed to help. I don't remember how much though. And garlic is supposed to help if you can get your pet to ingest it. The problem with the garlic though is it tends to make them smell horrible when they fart. lol Um.... there was a dawn dish liquid one. Not really all natural persay but it is safe to use for a shampoo for your pet. If they can use it for oil spills for those animals, it won't harm your pet. I know there's more but I can't quite remember them right now. Sorry!

I think I read somewhere that using garlic for cats was a bad idea. I can't remember where I saw that though. I'd caution anyone using Garlic on cats until you did a bit of research to make sure it was ok.

Ah, ok. I knew that garlic was supposed to be used for an animal. I just forgot whether it was for a dog or cat. I'm sorry for my mistake.

I think garlic is to cats as chocolate is too dogs, a big NO NO. I would be very cautious with using garlic with the kitties

Sorry to tell you but natural remedies don't really work. They might work for a little while but not for too long. Some people say to put yeast in their food but this will build up in their system and make them sick. A simple application of a flea serum behind their neck will take care of it and it will be a lot less stressful for your cats than bathing them!

Actually we started out using the flea serum and that didn't help one bit. It was just too expensive for the hassle.

I'm definitely looking into it. Now I'm just busy trying to use a flea comb and contiuous vacuuming to take care of what I can. I'm trying to hold off on chemicals as long as I can.
