What Do You Do With A Disobedient Child?

My son's turning 9 this August and I know he's still a kid.. but sometimes he can be really stubborn and disobedient, to the point where I'm losing my temper..I don't wanna spank him, so I just repeat myself until he follows..But then, I dont want him to grow up like this...I want him to obey...I'm not asking him to do things that aren't good for him..But most of the time, it falls on deaf ears...He's not deaf,by the way..his senses are okay..What do you suggest I do..

eihdra, I mayself is against hurting a child. but like you said what you explain to him usually falls on deaf ears. That is because at that age, a child doesn't really understand fully yet. You don't want to spank him.., I would spank him at times but not to the point of hurting him so much. Only in the right way. Read Proverbs 13:24.

I have a three-year old son who can be really stubborn and won't listen even if you tell him that he is not suppose to do that thing. I tried to spank him (but not to the point that it will hurt him) but it did not make a difference. The next time I tell him not to do it, he still won't listen. SO I think it's better if you have a talk with the kid and explain the consequences to him. You can also tell him the rewards of doing such and such things. It's really not that easy to discipline a child but when we show them that it's for their own good and that we love them so much, I think they will learn to listen.
