Was your Memorial Day memorable?

We visited the graves of family members, with special thoughts of those who has served in the armed forces. Our family did not lose any lives in combat in the past several generations. And I would imagine this is rare. I was impressed with the work of those who set up flags on each veteran's grave. They made a stirring sight waving in the breeze across the hillsides and green grass of the cemeteries. At one cemetery someone had placed a carnation on each veteran's grave. And at the larger cemeteries there were sections reserved for those who had died in battle. These were solemn rows of aging tombstones. It reminded us that new graves are being dug almost daily for those now in combat in the Middle East. War is a terrible reality.
