Are You a Responsible Pet Owner?

If you have pets like me, please share your ideas on reponsible pet ownership. I am disappointed to see two of our neighbor's dogs very sick and nearly dying because of scabbies due to dog fleas. They could have treated the poor animals before the condition became worst but obviously, they didn't. I feel sad about the poor condition of the animals because my neighbors are not poor and they could've afforded the treatment, or if not, they could've sought assistance from the government veterinary clinic. My point is: are we just to enjoy the services of these animals as house guards specially during night time without doing our best to take care of them? Until now, my heart really bleeds to see these poor dogs, although in their worst health condition, still manage to bark everytime a stranger would pass by our neighbor's house.....

That is sad how they just let their dog get like that. I have one cat and he is cared for every day w/ food and fresh water. I give him lots of love, Play w/ him, brush him, ect. I believe if you get a pet it's your responsibilty to take care of them it's not like they can do it for them selves. If they get sick take them to the vet and if you don't have the money to pay the whole bill up front the vet's will take small payments until the bill is paid off. I hope the dog does get the help he needs and will be ok.

Is there an animal control or SPCA that you can contact about the dogs? There's no reason that any dog should be suffering like that, even if the owners can't afford to pay for their care. I, personally, would file a report, because the owners need to be punished for neglecting their animals. Why have them if you're not going to take care of them? I think my biggest responsible pet ownership tip is: make sure you have the money to afford emergency care. Vet bills get very expensive, especially if you buy or get a dog from an unknown source (puppy mill, shelter, backyard breeder, or a so-called 'breeder' etc.) that has health problems. The health problems might not show up for a year, maybe not five years, but you must be able to afford those emergencies, if they arise. My second one is: spend months thinking about getting a pet and how you're going to arrange your life before actually getting one. That means recognizing that you need to be home a couple hours of the day, at least, to make sure your dog is well fed, exercised, clean, and well. Or that the cat/guinea pig/rabbit/rat/lizards litter is clean. Also, what you'll do with the animal if you go on vacation or meet someone (boyfriend/girlfriend/etc.) that wants to live with you and doesn't like your pet. What will you do if you get pregnant or have to move? I could go on and on and on, but I'll spare you the semi-rant. :)

I have two birds with white head. They are hob-and-nob with people. So my family get more laughs because of them. However, I have to addmit this two little babies are just one part of my lives. For them, their owener is all of meanning for their lives. It's unfair from the beginning, isn't it? What I do for them is to love and take care of them as best I can.
