Do you believe in destiny?

Has anything happened in your life to make you think it's true? Some things in my life have just happened so easily and worked out so well without any effort from me, like the last two jobs I had which practically fell into my lap, and the people who I've just stumbled across by chance and become close to, and who I now feel like I've known all my life. Things like this make me think that they were 'meant to be'. With other things that I've tried to achieve it was a constant battle, and obstacle after obstacle got in the way, and this made me wonder whether these things were destined not to happen? Should I just give up trying if it's maybe not meant to be? Do you ever think like this? Do you think that our life is pre-determined? Or do you think that we just make our own destiny?

uh,I don't believe destiny as like I don't believe god .I trust the destiny is decided by myself except some nature energy I can't defeat. Althouth I was born without sliver spoon. But I don't feel blue .The world is beautiful and full of hope .Whether you poor or loser ,you must stick out and strive .Any difficulties can't stop me to get what I should have.

I'm glad that you're such a determined person, and I know that it helps you to be determined if you believe that we all create our own destinies. I also believe this to a certain extent; I don't think you should just sit around and wait for things to happen, but sometimes things happen that just seems so right and it feels like it was the way it was meant to be. I know that might sound a bit crazy! It even sounds crazy to me as I'm not a religious person either. Just feel that there's something else out there and that the universe contains a lot more than we know about!! Thank you for your answer.

I believe God had already planned good things for us... but likewise He also gave us freewill to choose and decide for our own. Example, I have a friend who's really in love with this guy like crazy despite of how this guy treats her. She knows he's a womanizer, gets drunk almost everyday, and even beats her. Many times, i can't count... we advised her to leave him because he wasn't the one God wants her to be with... but then she decides to settle with him and live a miserable life and now she's regretting and wishing she wasn't that stupid. She said she can't leave him now especially they have kids... I know it's a sad story. I think sometimes we make our own destiny.

Oh, that's a sad story. I tend to think that if something's continuing to be that hard for her then it's not meant to be. It's a hard situation with the children and she is obviously in love with the guy as well to stay with him so long despite all the things he does. I hope one day she'll realise that she and the children deserve better than this though. Thanks for your comment.

Sounds like you believe in karma as well, with people getting what they deserve. I'm not sure if I do or not but I love the idea of it.

I'm sorry that life's so tough for you. I hope your luck changes soon. I guess we have to deal with all of life's blows, and keep trying or keep changing direction slightly until we get somewhere. That's all we can do. Take care.

I think I believe in destiny. Even some of the bad things in my life now make sense in why they had to happen. I still wonder how some of the bad things fit into the why of things but for the most part I do believe everything happens for a reason. That every one you meet good or bad is there in your life for a reason. You learn a life lesson from everyone you meet. The battles in life are there to teach you to appreciate the good things in life & make you stronger. Don't give up it will happen in the time it is supposed to happen in and the way it should happen. I may believe in destiny but I also believe you have to help make things happen. If you sit hiding on your couch for life to come get you it ain't happening. Just go with the flow and it will all work out the way it is supposed to.

Yes, I agree with what you're saying. I believe that some things are meant to be, but also that to a certain extent you have to make your own destiny. For exapmle, although the jobs I got came to me very easily I had to actually apply for them and go for the interviews (and do the jobs!!) etc.. You have to help destiny along sometimes! Yes, the bad things do kind of scupper the destiny theory a bit. Maybe some things are destined to happen and some are not, or else maybe even the bad things are meant to happen, but we just don't know the reason why, as we can't see the whole picture (?) I don't know. I'm not a religious person, so by rights I should believe that nothing's pre-destined and we just make our own fate, but sometimes I just can't help believing that there's a bigger picture somehow Thanks for replying.

Sometimes I've thought that way, that what happens to us is destiny. I'd really hate to believe that, though, because I've had some really terrible things happen to me and I can't understand why. I've always tried to be a good person and treat others with respect, care about nature and animals, etc. But some thing I've had happen I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy! Other things do just seem to fall into place. I think it's all just chance. Life seems to go in cycles. The downswing of these cycles seems to be awfully long, while the upswing is so short! I've learned to take what I get and make the most of it. No more wondering "Why?". It can drive you nuts!

Yes, it's hard to get your head round the idea of why bad things happen to good people, (and vice versa I suppose). I agree with you on that and can definitely sympathise. Maybe it's all part of a bigger plan that we just don't understand? That's what lots of people say anyway. How else can you explain massive disasters that happen to whole countries of people, like famine and war? Unless it is all down to chance like you say. I've also found that things seem to go in cycles and lots of bad things tend to happen at once. It's a good lesson to make the most of any upswings that happen, and enjoy it when you can!! I do tend to wonder 'why' a lot, hence this question, but I know I'll never really know the answer - just wondering what other people think. Thanks a lot for your reply.

Yes. I think I wrote the play of my life before I was born. I engaged all the actors and gave them their scripts. I knew what I wanted to achieve and set out the process to accomplish that. In writing the play I felt confident that I could deal with the hardships that I wrote in. After all, when I was writing it, I knew it is only a play - albeit with just one great performance (of this script anyway). I think we are obsessed with movies and television because we are trying to show ourselves that it is a reflection of our lives. Our scripts are taking us somewhere. We have just forgetten we are acting and there is a theme to it all.

Wow, I like that! What an interesting theory, so our destiny is completely down to us? Thanks for your insights .

Destiny - I partly believe in it. Because sometimes reality seems more concrete. It all depends on the experiences of life.

Yes, reality and the coincidence argument does seem more concrete. Sometimes it just feels to me that there's something else at play, but who knows for sure! Thanks for replying.
