Car parking ettiquette

On the way into work today, our local radio station was discussing the fact that a guy that works in the same building as them, parks his sports car on the far end of the parking lot and takes up two spots (presumably to make sure that no one will scratch the paint). The radio hosts were saying how ridiculous it was, since no one parks over there anyway. They also felt it was disrespectful to everyone else, because the guy was implying that his car deserved special treatment in a public parking lot. Thoughts, comments? I will admit that it does tick me off when I see a car taking up two spots in a crowded parking lot, but if someone decided to do that in a seldom used area of a parking lot, I don't have a problem with it.

Rhiannon, I do believe you've hit the nail on the head! In a CROWDED parking lot, sure, it would be incredibly thoughtless and rude to take up two spaces. But in a practically deserted parking lot I don't think it's disrespectful to take up two spaces at the far end of the lot! Not by a long-shot! And how did the DJs discern the implication his car deserved special treatment?? Maybe HE thought HIS car deserved special treatment but that's HIS decision, not theirs...they could do the same with thier cars if it meant that much to them. In fact, I would congratulate a person who spent that much money on a car for walking the extra distance JUST to ensure his/her car stayed scratch free. Why be careless with an expensive thing? However, many people may not agree with me. Unfortunately there are folks out there who would get irritated or affronted by someone doing this. That's when you might need to worry about someone keying the car or something like that - but that's another discussion. I don't find it ridiculous in the slightest.

I think it really boils down to the fact that they are probably jealous that he has such a nice car and wanted to vent about their own insecurities.

You and I certainly see eye to eye! Once again, I agree. People do the same thing all the time, but not many have a radio as the medium. It's frustrating to hear those kinds of complaints. Cheers

Hello How can one expect special favor in a public car parking? Well i don't know the rules in your place if they can allot 2 spaces, if one pays for both; but here we have a big parking space near railway station, if one pays for more, he is allotted.. Thanks for sharing. Welcome always, cheers. Professor. .
