What is wrong with Englands soccer team because, there is no excuse that they did not make Euro-2oo8. Therefore, could someone tell me what the problem is with Beckham and the national federation.

I agree with matthammer (and not just coz he's a west ham fan :P) but also in my opinion i feel there is a real lack of passion and desire to represent their country at the top level

Considering our national coaches generally pick their squad from the top 4-5 teams (who mostly field foreign players), they don't have as many options anymore. Often they subsequently opt for relative second-rate players from those teams rather than looking further down the table for players who have excelled at their respective clubs. That hurts the national team. So to does the constant need to pick players based on reputation, or previous inclusion. Sven's last squad epitomises this when he included Walcott as a 'wild-card' instead of actual tried and tested cover for an injured Rooney, a poor-performing Owen and Crouch. Players need to earn their place in the team without a bias of the club they play for or other factors mentioned above. Robinson took way too long to be dropped (Still angry about Green's absence). Owen needs to be. Beckham was nowhere near his best for a long time. Wes Brown is the weak link at United and shouldn't be anywhere near the England team. Lets hope the Trinidad game gives the other players a chance to shine and that Capello keeps to his word about players earning their place based on international performance.
