Stonehenge may have been royal cemetery

New information has come to light about Stonehenge. It's about time in my opinion because they've been trying to figure out the real use of Stonehenge for ever it seems. They've realized that it probably was a cemetary for royals. More information is at Yahoo. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080529/sc_nm/stonehenge_cemetery_dc_2;_ylt=AsGPWkKKFoRD_4XL3Oc1gWkE1vAI So what do you think? Do you agree with what they think now or do you think they'll just end up changing their minds again?

First of all I'd like to say thanks for the post. It's a great subject. I love this kind of "quest" for information. It's just like the Egyptian Pyramids where there are so many theories about their actual reason for being there. It got me to thinking though....what if in a zillion years AC (after computer) they find a whole treasure cove filled with these little silver disks with a hole in the middle. Would they have anyway of knowing what it is? Would they have any way of finding out what is on it? I mean heck it's really not that long ago that 5" floppy discs were "the thing" I bet a lot of people today would have trouble identifying one let alone reading the data on it. Anyway back at Stonehenge and I wonder if they are going to start digging up the place or if they have some kind of ultrasound thing-a-ma-bob to see if it really was just a burial place.

This Sunday on the Discovery Channel they plan on showing the excavation going on there right now. I plan on watching it because I'm fascinated by Stonehenge . There is so much we don't know on them and I think it would be interesting to find out more. The possibility that it was in part a burial area for an elite group does make sense. Whether or not that was it's original intent I don't know but I could see other generations using it for such. It is such an unusual artifact so I could understand why some would want to be buried there. The argument made by the archaeologists about how the river near by would have symbolized a way to the other world also makes sense. The problem comes in with the fact that it's a lot of theory. I don't we'll ever have clear cut answers about something that occurred 3,000 years ago. We can look at what we can find and make some theories but actually knowing for sure ... I don't see that happening.

Hi! I think they are going to change their minds again. Unless there is absolutely conclusive evidence that it is a burial ground. Maybe they dig up bones of the supposedly royal families themselves, as in 2 adults and some kids or maybe something like that they will declare it as it is but unless they dig another something up that will refute the old conclusions Im thinking you're guess is as good as mine. Unless we go back to the time where the stones are originally built in place or maybe time travel or something and really know for sure until then we would have to keep guessing and keep digging things up. The good thing about it is that people are united with what they believe what it is. So for the general people they will treat it as what they believe it is whatever the scientists say because for sure their conclusions will always change.

It's possible, like anything else. I think a group of guys sat around eating bad grapes and said to themselves "hey, wanna drive centuries of people crazy?" Just Kidding. I think it would have to be an elite group buried there given the enormous task of moving stones that size at that time period. It kind of made me wonder, though, it could have been a burial place for holy of the time. There are so many questions and so few answers we may never know. The mystery will continue to draw scientists and regular joes there and I have a feeling there will be many more theories about it. It is fun to watch great minds bewildered by a bunch of stones, though...lol
