I remembered asking my mom how she got my name. She told me that The first name that came to her mind was April, that's because I'm born in April. Then she changed her mind as they might tease me and call me Ape as a nickname. She then found a my name while reading a comic book. The lead character's name was Nerissa. And so there it was, that's how I got my name.

Around the time of my birth, my uncle and cousins were very much into a group that encouraged it's members to have the kids have African names. My uncle approached my mother and asked if he could name me. She told him sure, and he wrote the name down and gave it to her when she went into the hospital. When I was born, the nurses asked my mother if she had a name for me, she told them yes and when they saw my name, Nandi, they were like HUH?? mind you this is the early 1960s, but the name stuck. My cousins have similar names as well. One is a doctor, another cousin is an engineer for the NY transit system. One works in Atlanta. very smart I might add. We all went to college and three of us finished though at present, I am not doing anything with it but it is there.

The name I was given was Nandi Ayo. Both relatives who named me are still living. My uncle recently celebrated his 80th birthday in March and to this day, he calls me by both names I was given at birth. My cousin gave me my middle name is 94 and though he is pretty good health, he has been recently hospitalized and he's in our thoughts and prayers.

I got a European name, Sylvia, and was happy with it...well by the time I could think of another it'd stuck, but I always wanted to re-name myself so the one my adopted mother called me was Peaches, now they just call me Mom and Grand-ma . My other nicknames are The Bead Lady and The Shaklee Lady, after my two earthly passions! Hotep!!

actually they did not choose my name. my aunt gave me my name. i don't really know where she got my name. they say Karoline Criz means strong woman. i don't know how true this is. well so far i am a strong woman. haha. besides i think they patterned my name to sharon cuneta's daughter KC. they somehow changed the spelling of my nickname so it won't be the same as KC's. they didn't actually tell me about this i just manage to realize. because KC and i were of the same age also.

hehehe well we both are KC though i have changed the spelling..hehehe

I like your topic it brings back the funny days of my childhood. LOL My name is *++++++ hehehe I don't want to mention it but its easy to know since it's really a famous name. It was not my parents who gave that to me but my grandfather. He use to love this famous personality in our country during the time I was born so he insist to my parents to name me after that personality so it happen. And what is really funny is the name of the daughter of that famous personality was given to me as my petname. Isn't my family a big fan of that famous personlity here in our country?

My father actually named me. I was named for a character from a cartoon in the 70's. The cartoon was Josie and the Pussycats and the character was Melody, the dumb blonde! Unfortunately, my father didn't quite get it right and I ended up Melanie. And, of course, my middle name, Sue, is after my mom, her first name is Sue.

All names in my country have special meanings. Parents are very carefull when adding a name to their children. My name is given by my father. In Chinese, my name means all things in my life will go well. That's my parents most wanted.

My name was going to originally be Adrian Nicole named after a soap opera that my mother and grandmother used to like. My father wanted to name me, however, and my mother allowed it as she had named her previous children of no relation to my father. My name became Amber.

i was named after my grandma because that's what she wanted. but my dad, knowing that it's an old woman's name, added two more letters to make it sound like a more younger one. Thanks to my dad, because if he hasn't added it, i bet i would be the laughing stock in school..and forgive me, i dont wanna share it here..
