I am an aspiring film student looking to get into the field of editing. I plan to move to New York as soon as I finish my degree here in Florida. I was wondering what advice people had about New York. What things should I know before moving there? Thanks.

Save as much as possible. The cost of living in New York is notoriously high, but so is the cost of food, and other basic needs. If you can, get the weekly or monthly subway passes, you will save a ton by being able to buy them for longer periods of time. Since you will be a student, call your school and see if they have discounted subway passes, some schools like Parsons get discounts for student passes. If you don't already do so, make a budget and stick to it, the small stuff is what eats up money, and in NYC, that's especially the case. If you will have a car there, make sure the place where you will park it is actually close to where you live(and close to a subway station) so it's convenient for hauling film and other art equipment around. Good luck!
