What is the Cause of Sleep-Walking?

In my teens (way back years ago) I used to sleep-walk. I just can't sleep alone in the bedroom because my parents were terrified as to where would i end during the night... During those times when I had to accompany my grandparents in their house for nights, we had to sleep in the bedroom downstairs because my folks were scared that I might fall from the stairs during my sleep-walking episodes. I already passed the stage of my sleep-walking days, thanks God, but my concern now is my little ones beginning to show the same very odd sleeping habit. My 14-year old boy and my 5-year old girl start to talk and walk during their sleep at night time, it sometimes worry me because the girl would sometimes bump into things and the boy sometimes yell or shout during sleeping. What could have been the cause of this? Is this genetic? Thanks for sharing.
