Hints on Spyware that may help you

Frustrating when you are not a computer techy. Not long ago I had an annoying message come up on my screen when I turned on my computer. Seems I'd caught a bug and my computer started to slow down markedly. Then it would jam up and I needed to reboot my computer. I deleted all cookies and cleared history then ran the defrager which then jamed up and I had to reboot. It was recommended I get Spydoctor which I did and it seemed to help a bit but it was clunky and slow and didn't fix the pesky message that came up - which was a Mywebs message - spy stuff. I uninstalled Spydoctor. Today I installed Spybot - search and destroy. And guess what - it searched and destroyed. If you're interested heretis http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html. This was recommended by a techy who has it on his own computer and fixes them for a living. Spybot runs well with and separate to AVG 8 (both free downloads) and it's making my computer run nicely at the moment. Hope this info has helped you in case you needed it.

I hope it works okay for you, remember it's freeware so no guarantees it will get rid of everything. But I like when these things are being used by Professional Techies cause I feel more confident using them.

I did use spybot on my old laptop with AVG and I did find it very effective Tetchie! Thanks for sharing something that works with everyone here - who knows how many people you have helped! Did you know though that AVG are not going to be free for much longer - they are stopping giving the free download and updates soon! xxx

Re AVG, I'm not aware that AVG will not be available free. I just recently downloaded the latest version - AVG 8 which is free. Their website is a bit misleading as has been mentioned by several people but I navigated through to where you could still download it free. There have been enhancements to it as well which are very good. Am interested to hear what you have heard. If you want the latest AVG 8 go to this page: http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download?prd=afe

Several friends who still use AVG have been told their AVG software will no longer work if they do not upgrade to a paying version - that is what I have been told at any rate and i haven't heard anything since I no longer use it - I got Norton 360 free when I bought my new laptop so I have been using that instead! If my info is wrong I do apologise - it could still be free for now but would keep an eye on things! xxx
