There is still a tribe in India, and it really amazed me for India has come a long way into being one of the most upcoming country in the world, economically and socially. After marriage, the couple has to consumate their marriage on a white sheet and the next morning the sheet with blood has to be shown to the elders of the tribe. This incident came to light when a poor girl after consuming her marriage, did not bleed. She was shamed and sent home. However, to prove the girls innocence, the parents took her to a doctor, who after examination of both the husband and wife said the problem was with the husband and could not enter deeply. Even in this day and age, such rituals are kept alive by some tribes is amazing. We hope the tribe learns from their mistakes.

wow. that still happens in your country? isn't that a bit ridiculous? sending the bride home just because she didn't bleed during the first night? wait, that would mean that the tribe puts great importance of virginity. i can't believe that such tribe still exist in a country where there is computer advancement, medical high technologies, and all that. i mean, that is being conservative right? there's nothing wrong with it but in today's modern world, virginity is not a big deal anymore. men are more open-minded now and so are women. not being virgin should not destroy a marriage. that's just ridiculous.

When I read this I too saw red. But then this is life. Some tribes, and I mean tribes (people who stay in very small villages) do put a lot of stress on virginity. I too agree that virginity is no big deal in this day and age, but how do you explain that to such people ???

They won't learn from 'mistakes'. Their life and your life are different. The only thought is that they might die out like the American Indians or any other tribe (to anyone with ancestors of these - I'm not being harsh or anything even if it looks it) because they cannot keep up with the rest of the human race's advancements.
