the local Post Office. There was this lady there who used to have a smell on her whenever I would walk by. My friends and I would often comment about it (you know how teenagers are) because it was just so bad. Well one day, I am coming home from school ( it was an after school job and I was off)and I walk into my house to see this stink lady sitting in the kitchen. My mouth dropped open and as soon as I was alone with my mother, I asked her what she was doing there. Come to find out they were friends. I said to my mother: "mommy, that is the stink lady I was telling you about." She said alright but I will tell you why. Come to find out, while she is on her menstrual cycle, she doesn't bathe. This is the God's honest truth. I couldn't believe my ears. I said but why not and she said because she was raised like that. I said to her that I was glad that she raised me to bathe at all times. Have you ever heard of anyone else who does this? What do you think of the women who does this?

No offense, but she would never be welcomed in my home and I would stay as far away from her as possible. If she were my friend, I would explain to her that although she was raised like this, this is not the way we behave in a civilized society. When I was a teenager, I remember people saying that you should not take a bath while on your menstrual cycle, so I take showers. She could even take a wash up. Maybe she is use to that smell, but I have allergies and Asthma, which means that my nose is extremely sensitive. That smell would almost kill me, literally. That is just a horrible odor. Someone needs to tell her that is waste and needs to be washed away as soon as possible. Oh that is just too gross.

Well as I said, this happened while I was in High School and she was a grown woman but only God knows where she is now. But that totally disgusted me. Thank you for responding.

I think that's a very sensitive cultural/religious/tradition issue. My very orthodox great aunts freaked out when they found out that I bathed all year long. For many religions, the menstrual cycle is a very sacred time. Now that people are able to take better care and stay cleaner, a lot of people have abandoned that tradition. I definitely prefer to bathe, but I don't feel right criticizing something that is based on their religion or culture.
