very controversial question

Don't get cheesed at me, this is a legitimate question. Now that Obama is the Democratic Nominee, I have heard a lot of talk about what COULD happen should he be elected President. Most of what I have heard is coming from educated men and I have to wonder if they are right. I do not participate nor do I condone judging a person on the basis of skin color. But some people do (many people, if we're going to be honest)and there is a great deal of talk that should Obama become President, he will be asassinated because of his skin color. I have been told that supremacy groups and skin head groups are up in arms over Obama's skin color. If he is elected (and it looks like he will be)do you think he will face asassination?

To this very day I cannot understand what the big issue is about the colour of someones skin! Skin is like hair, it has colour so why not pick on hair colour? It baffles me but it has been going on for so long now it will never change. I hope this man makes it as from what I have seen of him here in Aussieland I think I would prefer him to Hillary.(sp.?) I hope he is not assasinated but not always about the colour of skin for this to happen as in the Kennedys'.

First, I agree with you on skin color. I think it's the dumbest thing in the world to judge a person on. But, you bring up another point. Obama has been compared to Camelot and has been endorsed by the Kennedy's. Will their' trajic past be visited upon Obama?

where I live its ignorant people saying he is Muslim and he will deliver us to Terrorist hands, which I laugh at and tell them they watch too much gossip television the bias new stations. I research Obama myself and found his mother was catholic his father yes is Muslim, but his mother's catholic grandparents raised him catholic, which as he got older to understand religion choose Christianity as his religion. So how does that make him Muslim? They normally drop their mouths and start studdering, but but I heard..... I tell them they should research the canidate on their own and not listen to news media. They are lots of people that think something or someone will try to hurt Obama. I think he is a target. I hope the secret service can protect him myself, because we need someone like him in office. I just really hope he is a man of his word, and isn't just like all the other politicans, but on the same token, we have to get the other good ol boys and good ol girls out of the other seats and get people who want change in the other seats. So real change is really possible.

I'm not convinced that he can do what he wants to do. It would be nice...but I'm a wait and see kind of girl. If he does get into office, I do not want to see him asassinated because of race. I think it's beyond ridiculous that people still hold on to racism.

I don't see why anyone would get angry with you, it is a legitimate question and it's not like you've made any threats against anyone. The thing is in this day and age anyone in the public eye faces some danger from the many crazies that live in the world today. Look how many show biz celebrities who have even been gunned down or stalked and then murdered, so it's not limited to politicians. I only hope that whoever is elected our Secret Service Agents will continue to do the fantastic work they've done for decades now. I also think in Obama's case people see the obvious threat to him, as you said skin-head groups and white supremacists, but there is somebody who may have something "against" whomever is elected. Having experienced the pain caused to the entire nation when these kinds of tragedies happen I hope we never have to endure it again! Annie

Amen to that! Honestly, this subject turns my stomache. I had hoped that our nation was past the skin color issue. But, that's just my rose colored glasses again. I hear a lot of racist talk. I really wish people would just see people, not skin color.

Don't think he will be elected and mainly because of his skin color, which I think sucks, it isn't a persons skin color that matters, it is if he is good for the country, what can he do for us, but many don't think that way. I do believe if he was to get in he will be asassinated before his run of office is over. My concern with him is not skin color but the type of shady friends he is associated with. I do not think he has the experience to deal with developments overseas, Nor the ability to keep us safe from attack. Think back to 2 years ago or a year and a half ago, did you ever hear his name, unless you was from his district did you know him, where did he suddenly pop up from, why is all the ones overseas, the ones that are killing our service men in Iraq backing him, what do they expect to gain from this, there are too many things that just dont' sit right with him for me, but that is my opinion.

It's true that I had never heard of him before his bid for the white house. I don't believe he has the experience. I don't like his shady friendships either and he has been wrong on way too many things for me to say that he would be an effective president. That said, I am truly shocked to hear so many "modern" people say that they would not vote for him because he is black. It's a subject of great debate where I live and I am appalled that would be a deciding factor in a vote. But that's just me.

I pray that Barack is NOT assassinated, RebeccaLynn; that would be truly awful!! Although I'm well aware of those stupid hate groups, I do know that Barack Obama is being very well protected security-wise. And has been since he announced his candidacy. However, we just never know... So please do pray that no harm whatsoever comes to Mr. Barack Obama.

Oh sweetie, I don't want to see anyone asassinated! I pray for all of our leaders - whether I agree with them or not. For instance, I pray that God will give Bush a brain. Or a conscience. Or a kick in the butt. There are a lot of hate groups out there. I don't understand hating someone based soley on skin color but I've been told that I'm a different kind of duck.(There are hate groups in the town that I live in, though they don't consider themselves hate groups. They don't understand my views.)So...all politics aside, I do not want him or anyone else asassinated.

I don't think he would be assassinated. Perhaps I just don't hear anything bad about him from anyone, black or white. I've always thought that people get assassinated for their ideals more that their color. I guess it's hard for me to understand that people can be so ridiculous as to kill someone because they happen to be a different color.

You would think that we have come far enough to accept one another, even though we may be of a different race. Sadly, I have moved to a part of the U.S. where racism runs rampant. It's disheartening to hear that there are people who can't get past the past.

I think there is great potential for this to happen. I don't like Obama and will not vote for him, but am not basing that decision on his skin color. However, that is not to say that many people won't. As a nation we have evolved from the days of segregation, but many still live in fear of what a black presidency could bring about.

Based on what I'm hearing, we haven't evolved that much. The race card has been played a lot in this campaign and it's a hot button with some of the older white crowd. Quite a few of the younger ones too. I think it's ridiculous. I just don't see a black President using his power to "get back" at the white population. It would ruin him. Has anyone thought about the fact that he has a white mother? What is it that people fear a black president would bring about?
