What are you doing to save the environment?

I'm just curious. Are you doing your part to help save the planet? DO you recycle or maybe put in water saver shower heads. A brick in the cystern to save some water every time you flush. Use energy save globes. How do you contribute?

i recycle soda cans, bottles, paper and i mean ALL papers.. bills/newspapers/mail/receipts (all shredded for id theft reasons) i bought those bulbs (hallogen i think?) and the two lights i use all the time have them in them.. i only use those two.. one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen instead of 4 reg in living room and 4 reg in kitchen and 3 reg in bedroom so im saving that way.. i am cutting back on water usage.. never run water when not needed and using less in rinsing dishes (not having the water all the way on but half way so you are still rinsing them but not with full power so it equals less water.. umm.. i guess that is all i do but i think its pretty good since a year ago i did nothing.. so at least its a start.. unfortunately my hubbys job transferred him from ten min drive to an hour so gas is being wasted more but i make him take the highway type roads instead of slower ones since you save more on gas at going like 50 than any other rate from what i read and this road goes 55 and the others 40 so i figure that helps some.. i also dont buy new clothes i get everything used..

I am vegan so save lots of animals. I try to recycle as many things as possible like my baby son's glass jars, my fruit juice cartons, carboard packets, food tins and paper. I use energy saving bulbs in my home. I use public transport quite a lot for longer journeys and I walk for shorter journeys. I am going to work on using less water in my home. You have some great ideas to make people want to become more eco friendly.

Hi Erratic, I tend to do the stuff that probably most people do - to save their wallets, not the environment. Not that the environment really needs saving IMO - at least, not from "global warming", which the Sun has much more say in than anything Humanity might or might not choose to do. Greenhouse gases are one, big, very bad joke - a massive propaganda campaign spreading misinformation to the masses for profit. So the price of petrol forces me to consider buying and using less of the stuff - but that's the limit of my personal concerns with the matter. I think the REAL danger to the environment comes from logging and clearing forests, and runaway commercial farming practices which poison the landscape. In Australia, for example, we have big-money corporations sucking the rivers dry to feed their cotton plantations, which also poison the land with their fertilizers and pesticides, and they get away with this because they line the pollies' pockets and pay off anyone that needs to be paid off. How much water I personally do or don't use has no effect whatsoever on those sorts of issues. In fact, about the only issue on which I can actually have any positive effect is recycling garbage and not using so many plastic bags. Most everything else is just hype IMO. The big money cartels are the ones doing most of the damage to the environment, and our Fascist governments stacked with vested interests and paid-off pollies ensure there's not a thing we can do about it.

That's a good point you made about the water here in Australia. Individuals have very little influence on it, but we are asked to use as little as possible. There is a timber mill in my town, and a bloody big one at that. It chews water like crazy, but if it was to close due to lack of water, about 80% of the people here would be out of work and broke.

This Is indeed a very interesting discussion.Yesterday being environment day.I live on a tea estate. We try to educate the labour about saving our environment.I never use plastic bags.I always carry a cloth bag while shopping or marketing.I do not use chemicals for my garden. Its only oragnic manure.I save up my kitchen waste and convert it into vermicompost which is very good for the soil.My bathroom water is diverted to the garden. If everyone can chip in and do their bit iam sure we can save our environment.I read this somewhere which i would like to share with you "Dont act as if the earth is your birth right remember it has been loaned to you by your children".We must to something so that our children can still enjoy what we have enjoyed.
