When my husband and I got married, the JP handed us a printout from the internet. He told us that if we read this book, he could pretty much guarantee a lifelong happy marriage. For about a month, I kept forgetting about that printout, which was in the glove compartment of my car. I happened to remember it when we were out and about one day, so we stopped at the bookstore and purchased it. "The Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work" by John M. Gottman. As I began reading it, I was surprised at what a fantastic book it really was. I tend to get bored with most of these types of titles. But I found myself picking this one up instead of the new fiction book I'd been getting lost in. His principles are based on years of study in his "Love Lab." In reading this book, I can see how couples become mired in a cycle that makes their problems seem unsolvable. In fact, most marital arguments ARE unsolvable, but that doesn't mean they can't be dealt with in a way that makes everyone happy. If you're married, if you're in a relationship, or even if you're single, it's a great read. You'll learn a lot about yourself.
