well we all have had the problem with out ipods. out battey conks out after a year of hardcore use. and weve all paid to ship it to apple to get it replaced. but what we hjaent concidered is why apple doesnt offer replaceable betteries on their ipods. its apple, they cou;ld probably find a way to make it look sexy. i tried other mp3 players with replaceable betteries and none of them had the same performance and abilities as apple does with their ipod.

i think its just another tactic they use to keep you coming back to them. some people say they have to pay for these battery replacements, others say its free. so even if it is free and apple doesnt make money off it, they get a chance to show those who have to send batteries in just how great their customer service is. i personally have never had to send one in on account of battery failure, and ive had a few different ones.

They're making money off of it and stand to make future customers because of it, so it makes a lot of sense to me. I've replaced the battery in mine twice over the past 4 years, myself, and saved myself the, what is it? $65 fee? If you're handy, that's definitely the way to go, in my opinion. Electronics have planned obsolescence, regardless of what you buy, so there are always going to be the downs of having to get battery replacements or the screen replaced or whatever.
