Tesla coils don't clone hats, cats, or people.

The Prestige is a good movie. I really enjoyed it. However, they wrote a really stupid ending which wasn't much of a surprise like they'd hoped. The story goes along so well. I liked that they randomly threw Nikola Tesla into the story. I did not know all that much about his history, but apparently his disputes with Thomas Edison and his research facility in Colorado Springs are all true (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_tesla). Anyway, I think that having the tesla coil stuff in there was cool. When they ominously said the machine would cause remorse and pain, I had a feeling where it was going. Then, once they showed all those hats again it was obvious. I love how at the end they tried to make it a revealing surprise that the stupid tesla coil machine cloned objects. Duh. Not even the stupid audience was that surprised, although some people were. I don't know, I liked the movie, but I didn't like how stupid science fiction came into play. I love sci fi, but when you mix a non-scifi story with something just insanely bizarre it doesn't go too well together. It just makes it look as if the writers randomly drew up an ending to explain something because they were either 1) too stupid to write a better ending 2) on crack or 3) both. How to make it better? If I were writing the movie, I would have it so that in the end the audience discovers that the Wolverine killed in the water tank was really the look-alike actor from earlier, and that's how he framed Batman. It would show that Wolverine would go to any ends (even murder) to get back at his arch enemy. That would only thicken the intensity of the ending. But, whatever. Instead of something like that we have to deal with the stupid ending we were given. I did like how Batman's assistant was his twin brother. I knew something was odd about him (obviously, right?) but I couldn't figure out what it was exactly. That was a cool twist. The stupid clone-making tesla machine was just lame. It killed an otherwise very intense, intriguing movie. The duality of Batman was awesome, but to keep it good all they had to do was keep it slightly more down to Earth. I think the Tesla machine still could have been there, but it should have just been some static electricity effect that did nothing more than make your hairs stand up (which, in reality, is all it would do-- unless it's one of those intense ones that kill people). The narration was so good, too. That's what I loved. The recurring theme of the Prestige, and the Man-in-the-box which doesn't impress anyone til he reappears were really well played. I love movies like this; I'm just sad that such a good film had such a stupid part in it. I get mad when good movies have something which ruins them, and this one did. I really enjoy science fiction, but it needs to be put in the right stories and places. This film was not the place for that.

Your discussion happens to be a little to long. I am sorry but I didnt read it all the way through because of that. My advice is that you make your dicussions a little shorter and then you should plenty more responses.

That wasn't suppose to be a Tesla coil, but some secret machine Tesla built on commision. That's the only part with Tesla that of course wasn't true. Keep in mind the WHOLE MOVIE is fiction, so a little SCIENCE Fiction isn't gonna hurt. I think people and critics griped because they actually had to THINK for a change.

Alright, but I don't feel I had to think too much. I mean, it was obvious what the machine did. The only real surprise was Christian Bale's deal. I found The Departed to be more intense and even surprising at parts. I still liked the movie, though.

I actualy think that Batman did have a twin brother ...He stated that he never asked Tesla to build a machine for him ...and btw ...batman was poor he did not have the cash for Tesla's expenses.
