Actually it is on the streets since las December, but unfortunately, I only heard about it yesterday, browsing on the internet... it is called "Shine" and she claims it to be "her most serious work of ever". I love what I have heard of its music! it is very thought provocking and full of different feelings and emotions about the world of nowadays... I had heard before that she was retired and she would never record anymore, so I was very happy when I heard about this... but I wonder why I didn't heard that much on the media about "the return of Joni"... is it a political affair? is it because of her social denounce that is not "politically correct"?

I love her music too! I specially like "Mingus" and the last ones, with Vince Mendoza's orchestrating, but I love them all. What I have heard of this new one is impressive and fresh, and a little bit agressive, and I think the reflections it inspires are the kind of what we need nowadays. But unfortunately, there are people that don't want us to think that way, so there have been a lot of negative criticism, like you can read on rolling stones webpage: http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/album/16528253/review/16546289?utm_source=Rhapsody&utm_medium=CDreview "Joni Mitchell is the kind of aging egoist who gives ecology a bad name" he has the nerve to say. I don't understand why in this crazy world an insult like this is considered correct, while talking about love and against war is considered incorrect. So of course, I am tired of this phrase!!! :)

She started in the 70's with some kind of canadian folk and social rock and roll, somehow influenced by Bob Dylan. But then she turnt into jazz and invented a new style of jazz-folk singing with some friends. In the 90's and more recently, she worked with Vince Mendoza in a more classical music like style, with symphonic versions of her old songs. You might have listened to the hit "Both Sides Now", which appeared in the soundtrack of the movie "Love Actually" and wich received many grammy awards (such as the " best symphonic arrengements" for Vince Mendoza). You can learn more about her wonderfull lyrics and her other arts (poertry, painting, music...) at her web jonimitchell.com
