Do you write HTML code raw using just a text editor or use an editor like dreamweaver or Frontpage. I barely know HTML basics and usually use a lot of cut and paste and frontpage. What about you. How did you learn HTML and how good are you at it?

This looks interesting. I am trying nvu as suggested above and if I am not happy this looks like a good software. Thanks for the suggestion.

dreamweaver is by a mile the best. all other programs are dissapointing in comparison. But if you haven't yet seen the light of dreamweaver, try Nvu (http://nvudev.com/index.php)

Thanks for the new suggestion. Is it similar to frontpage?

Anyone who uses dreamweaver or frontpage will get nowhere serious, I highly advise learning the code. A great site for html is htpp://w3schools.com. I use Notepad++ as my editor, the best FREE software you could get. Notepad is good, but Notepad++ is the best, includong syntax highlighting, project management (with addons of course), multiple tabs, and much more you won't get with Notepad. It also saves your session, so you can have five tabs worth of code, that show up when you reopen the application. Get it here: http://notepadplusplus.org, the .com is some scum trying to steal traffic -Chris

I primarily use Notepad on Windows, or TextEdit on Mac. :D I know, it's pretty weird, but I can't seem to get the site to display the way I want to using Dreamweaver of Frontpage. Not to mention when I'm coding the website using JSP. Then it's Notepad/TextEdit all the way. But if you're looking for ease of use, nothing beats Apple's iWeb, in my opinion. It's part of Apple's iLife suite, and you can drag and drop whatever you want, wherever you want... It's that simple.

hi first of all if you want to learn html basics..go here www.w3schools.com i use dreamweaver cs3 along with flash cs3 and photoshop cs3 for my web sites but mainly dreamweaver...it's by far the best editor around for designing style or hardcore coding...also it has many plugins that extend it's usability. and for easy tasks i use notepad++ so i can see my code in color

I prefer to use raw text editor for html. But to sure that my design is going correctly i have is it all time and open the in the Internet explorer, so I am using editor for this purpose so that i view my design in the same page while i am designing it. I am working on Linux os, so i am using the bluefish editor which came along with my operating system. You said that you do a lot of copy paste work, my advice is not to do that because they source code of each page you see is copyrighted as per the web law even though it is not specified. I am not that good at html because i am still learning it.

I've been designing websites for 10+ years. During this time, I've used many different editors. My favorite is CoffeeCup software. I can hard code or if someone would prefer, they can use a visual editor and not need to know a lick of coding to use it. (that's what my niece uses) They also offer free, lifetime upgrades and they upgrade regularly. I've used them for several years.
