Are you passionate about your study - if so, why? What are you studying?

I have always believed that you are good at what you love. Therefore I have chosen to study about things I am passionate about. At the moment I am studying to become a birth attendant - or a doula. I am learning all about how babies are born and how to support women emotionally and physically to help them cope with labour. I am being taught to empower women and endorse natural childbirth but also to support any woman in pregnancy and labour who need my help. This means that I have alot to learn, some of it is out of text books and some of it is hands on - you learn on the job so to speak. I am totally loving my study and I find that it is not so much a learning but more of a 'oh thats why that happens' situation as I have had four children of my own. I think I have found my calling in life. I have studied quite a few things and all but one was a passion of mine, I have done, if I may say myself, very well in my studies because I have applied myseld well and worked efficiently - but most importantly I have done well because I have done things that come naturally to me and have enjoyed myself! The one thing that I did study, office administration and accounting, I was only an average student and then when I finally worked in the field I really didn't enjoy having to go to work everyday. I really feel for people who don't do something they enjoy for work. What about you, are you studying your passion and are you therefore going to love your worklife? What are you studying and why? Does it have to do with your hobbies? I will be a fully qualified Doula by the end of this year. When will your course finish and what role will you fill in your worklife?

I agree completely with you that "you are good at what you love." I am studying for a Bsc in Environmental Management, as I have always been passionate about the Environment; I love everything about my course, getting to go on lots of field trips- really feels like what we're being taught makes sense when you can get out there and see things. There are a lot of possible jobs that my degree can lead on to, and further study, but I have only just finished the first year so am unsure what I will end up doing yet. I have done much better at university than I did at school and I believe it is due to the natural passion and interest I have for the subject. I really hope this transfers to getting a job, I have worked for a couple of years before going to university and hated the (office) work I was doing. But perhaps I just hate working! lol.

Good to hear that you enjoy and love your studies. Yes, I'm studying my passion too. I'm taking my Degree in Computer Science in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia as part time student while still working as Software Engineer in a small Wireless Broadband Company here in Malaysia. I love the technology and the science behind the technology. The science behind the computer technology brings us here and allow us to communicate from far across the world without having to physically meet each other. My hobby is programming, playing with the communication technology, blogging and all of them are closely related to what I'm studying. I've even created a blog about this particular interest on my "Coder's Talk Blog" at http://coderstalk.blogspot.com ... My course is taken part time and I think I can finish them in the next two years. As I am already a Software Engineer, I'm thinking about being a computer scientist, a researcher who can invent a new wheel... or else, maybe I'm going to be a lecturer in this particular field while working on my personal research and development project. How about the others? I would like to hear your stories too!!

Congratulations on finishing your course soon! I think that would be such an amazing and rewarding job. It will be so special to get to be a part of such a miracle and experience it all the time! I just finished my bachelor's in music performance and now am about halfway through my masters in it. Music (playing viola specifically) has always been a real passion of mine for as long as I can remember, so it was totally natural for me to go into it once I started college. I'm not completely positive what I will do with it when I finish, but I am thinking I will probably teach viola privately and hopefully get a job in a professional orchestra. Good luck finishing off your coursework!
