To give or not to give?

The streets here in the Philippines are home to many beggars. Everywhere you go, there are children selling flowers or begging or coins. Some adults also make money on the streets by selling food, water, or whatever they can get their hands on. The blind, disabled, and old also frequent the streets hoping to get something out of those who cruise by. No matter how pitiful these beggars look, I never give them anything because they might poke my eye or rob me once the window is rolled down. Also, many street children work for a syndicate, so giving them money is just making the situation worse. The problem here is that I can't tell the bad guys from the good guys. SO maybe I don't give a kid some money thinking that he's part of a syndicate when the truth is that his mother is sick and slowly dying at home. It's a big dilemma for me. If you were in my shoes, would you give or not give?

I agreed with you that we cannot really tell the bad guys from the good guys. Honestly when I was in the Phlippines I never gave any coins to any beggars because I believe there is a syndicate behind it who is using and controlling these poor people to earn money for them. The more we give the beggars money the more the syndicates are going to use them! But if I am going to see beggars on the street I will try to give them some food and not money.
