most school have a policy requiring students to wear uniforms:all the students must wear the same outfits during school hours.they say uniforms help student and teachers know when strangers are in school. others disagree with that they say uniforms do not let teens express themselves. so what do you think?

There are both advantages and disadvantage for wearing uniforms. Like you have already mentioned, its a good way for students to be recognized and be associated with a particular school. Then again, the uniform can also be worn by those who intend to do bad things. We had an incident here wherein the culprits wore the same school uniform that we had but weren't really students at all. Due to that, all students were required to present their IDs to the guards which wasn't really that difficult to do. It Though it can restrain the student's expression of their personality by having to wear uniforms that make them look alike, I think it has already been mentioned before as well, students can be creative sometimes. They can still express themselves with their hair-dos for instance.

You should've also mentioned that in your discussion. Not all uniforms are affordable, that's why most parents and even children who are a little tight on the budget would opt for already used ones. Most often, what already has been used by older brothers and sister, would be used by those younger siblings. I've experienced that before and that includes the things that I used in school like text books.

I think they should wear it cause it keeps them safe and saves them time from choosing clothes every morning.

after YEARS of letting people "express themselves" here in the states, some schools are going to uniforms to keep these kids from showing off, or showing "gang" colors.

oh... times changes, things change, but we don't change. uniform can't help to prevent those kids from showing off.i guess it's our nature.once the condition is better,we just want to show off.

A uniform is very essential because it breaks down the social class between students so as to make sure other students do not feel oppressed by others. It is also quite good because it keeps an organized and smart order in the school as they learn moral values through wearing a uniform itself.

I go to a school where I have to wear uniform and I think it is good sometimes, but other times it is not so good because sometimes you need some variety in your outfits. But sometimes it can be tedious to try to pick out all of your outfits for the next day and copare what you want to wear, so i guess uniform can be good too.

I had to wear one all throughout my schooling.. and while I sometimes hated it, I liked the fact that I didn't have to worry about what to wear and didn't have to get made fun of because of my clothes or the styles I liked. The only thing that I hated is that sometimes the schools take it a little too far by saying you can't wear makeup or earrings or nail polish because they want the school to have a nice presentation and that when someone sees the child in a certain uniform that the child is representing that school. So they want their appearance to be nice. I find this to be a little dumb, it takes away every right of freedom of expression.

Not so! There are COUNTLESS other ways one may "express" oneself, not the least of which is VOCALLY! And unless you're using ugly language, it won't hurt anyone, whereas uniforms CAN'T hurt ANYONE, & they have many advantages, most of which people have already pointed out right here. Maggiepie

I think uniforms are a good idea for many reasons. One being the one you said it wwill be easy to tell if a stranger walks in. Makes life easier when you dont have to buy your kids expensive clothing so they fit in at school. As for the whole teens cant express themselves well I say they arent in school all day they can express all they want outside of school. And there are other ways to express yourself that dont require clothing.

I agree it would suck for the kids but at the same time most asked for it. Well at least here growing up I can rember getting picked on for my choice of clothing and if we had uniforms then that wouldnt be happening. I just think kids seem to be so mean and money is getting tight for many that uniforms would help many parents.

For me, I love to have uniform since I will not be worrying what to wear and wash a lot of clothes and iron it everyday. I prefer having uniform, more descent and less hassle. In our campus, we have security guards who are constantly checking the people who will enter the university so it will be very hard for the outsiders to have an access.

There are no schools here that has have school uniforms. Ihave no first hand experience. To me it is a foreign concept that does not immediately appeal to me. There are some pros though. As you mention it is easy to spot strangers. I can imagine that the students might be more equal as noone has the chance to wear flashy clothes at school. There will be no indecent or improper attire either. On the other hand I do think students know who are rich, or cool or whatever no matter what. It also stifles individuality. Not everyone looks very good in the same style either. All in all i like it best without uniforms

I would agree with wearing school uniforms. I like it very much. It saves a lot of energy and money on buying clothes. LOL. Students should know that they are students...their work is a student and their company is the school. If they want to express themselves, go out of the school. Not wearing a uniform will just create a not so pleasant environment because students will just any how wear anything they want for their convenience. Wearing a uniform is a form of discipline that when you under a certain place, you need to know how to follow rules and regulations. Take care =)

It is really good to see children in their school uniform. That's right, it si easy to identify if somebody gets in the school when kids have their uniforms. Besides, you will not be spending too much buying other other shirts. When your kids have uniforms, they will not be tempted to acquire clothes in fashion, so than.. you can save.

For me, a student should wear their prescribed uniforms. If you want to express yourself, then do it during weekends when you go malling. Teens can epxpress themselves in many ways.

I think they are making the students wear uniforms so they can have an excuse to kick out the students they don't want to teach, the ones who won't score well on the test.I think uniforms are a great way to stay home from school. All you have to do is wear the wrong thing and you can't get in. If there were uniforms in my day, I would have stayed home 60% of the time especially if the girls have to wear skirts. No, if there were skirts, I wouldn't have gone to school. I would refuse to wear the uniform.

I like the idea of uniforms. Kids can express themselves outside of school. Schools are having to get such specific dress codes, it seems uniforms would be easier for everyone. It also eliminates the need for those terribly expensive clothes that not everyone can afford. So yes to school uniforms.

Hi! As for uniforms in school should be mandatory, its not only a question of identification of students, its a matter of discipline too. Otherwise children will dress as per their will and wish, and would deny obeying their teachers. It would not be a good habit. And even in schools there are possibilities that children might start differentiating among themselves ,depending upon their dress sense. One might come in average outfit and one in posh one, hence differences might arise. Advisable to make uniform compulsory in schools
