How do you flavor beef to reduce your salt and fat intake?

When I am cooking to loose or maintain my weight, I find that if I use spices such as ginger and red pepper, the beef tastes wonderful even without frying it or excessively salting it. What spices work for you when you are on a diet but have to eat your beef?

I use a variety of spices when cooking beef. Staples that must go into any type of beef that I cook, include garlic and onion. Try adding basil, oregano and thyme to your beef dishes. It gives it a unique, awesome flavor. You may also want to try some low sodium beef broth instead of water when cooking. This will help with additional flavor, while keeping the salt intake low. One other solution you might use is a paste made of garlic, a low fat oil, basil, oregano and lots of pepper. Try coating the meat the night before and sealing it in a plastic bag to marinate or slicing small spots throughout the meat and inserting your paste before cooking. Grilling is best for this. Enjoy the yummy alternative to tons of salt!

I only season my meat with pepper, lemon and garlic. Then when I cook it, I add tons of vegetables to give it texture and taste! Worcestire (sp?) sauce is also a nice way to give meat taste once it's cooked.

We like Mrs. Dash seasonings - they don't contain salt but are good seasoning blends. There are several different varieties available.
