People who are deaf from birth are unable to imagine sounds, in the same way that you can't imagine what seeing infrared or ultraviolet would be like. However, people who lost their hearing later in life - even if they were young at the time - will have some memories of sound, and the brain pathways and memories associated with them. They may even dream with sound. Deaf people can "hear" their thoughts, but will "hear" them as sign language, as a sequence of mental gestures.

And as far as deaf people, it too would depend on if they had ever heard before. If they hadn't, I really wouldn't know what goes on in their mind. Maybe somebody that was once deaf and now can hear can answer that one. But I think that if they were born with hearing, they could still hear themselves think even if they are deaf now, because when you hear yourself think you are not hearing with your ears. But I would think only if they had been able to hear at one point in their life, because they would need to know what the words were. I dunno.

I would assume whether blind people dream in picture depends on if they were blind from birth or if something happened to make them that way. As in, if a person was blind since the day they were born, they wouldn't know picture form. They wouldn't know what things looked like. Or, if they could see until a certain point in their life and then became blind, I think it's reasonable that they could dream in picture.

If you think about it, nobody can really "Hear" themselves think. Deaf people are not 100% deaf, they can sense vibrations and use context clues, and in their minds they can form these into sounds and words. Deaf people probably think more in images but they can imagine vocals. As for blind people, the exact situation goes. They can use imgaination and context clues, to form images. These images may not be exact, but they can still form images in their mind using context clues. And, again they probably think in words more than images.

If a blind person has had sight before becoming blind, many times they dream visually. I had a blind friend tell me that as time passed after losing his his sight that he quit dreaming visual dreams and he usually was blind in his dreams. If you think about it your dreams reflect your experiences in real life.
