Do you often drive by peoples houses and wonder what goes on in their life?

Sometimes when I drive by houses, or see other people out in their yard I wonder what their life is like. Do they have an exciting life, sad, happy life etc. I also think what it would be like living in someone elses shoes for a day. For example the other week on Oprah (talk show). Oprah mentioned you never really know what goes on in these perfect suburban homes, things may seem all good on the outside but on the inside it could be a whole different story. She then did stories on people who had great homes, however their lives were in turmoil, this one lady was bulimic and she had been hiding this secret for 16 years from her family. In a different home this lady had an obsessive compulsive disorder, she had to clean everything meticulously and wash her hands several times a day, her own children were never allowed to hug her after a shower. If you saw her out in her yard you would never guess that she was like this, it is quite sad. So what I am trying to say I guess things aren't always what they seem. So am I just a curious cat or do you often wonder what goes on in the houses you drive by everyday?

I always have the same thoughts as you kiran, When I will observe people in the mall, park or streets, I will try to figure out if she is happy, depressed or what's going on in her life. Same thing if I will see a nice houses or small one, I will try to "get in" and imagine how is it inside, are the people have time to talk or bond each other or each one of them is busy working to have more more money..LOL! I thought, I am the only one having these thoughts..

I thought I was the only one having these thoughts too, lol, atleast we know we are not alone in these thougts, there are 4 other people here so far who think the same way. I find it fascinating imagining what goes on behind closed doors and to see whether people live similar lifestyles to me or totally different.

It is a natural human tendency to know what is going on in a nearby house. One always remains curious to know how others behave in the confines of their homes. Because, if we have to see a man in his true senses, we should visit his house, without informing him and if we are able to manage a entry in his house, we may find very funny and amusing things about him and his upkeep of his house. We are more concerned about the fact that what is going on in their house, rather than ours. I just do not feel like intruding the privacy of others and I believe in the dictum - "Live and let live".

Hi Kiran-as I don't drive where I go I look at people and watch how they are when walking around hear what they say to their friends (naughty I know) watch their facial expressions what they shop for-it is quite interesting to see these things as some people who shop at expensive shops and buy expensive food and also have a nice car and house behind closed doors are probably in financial problems or have hang ups that they have to look as if they are able to be a bit better off than others-my partner happens to be comfortable but does have money problems even though he has a horse yard-then there are those who look poor read the sun or fantasy books are able to talk to others quite freely and mix with others or even the alcholics and strangely enough they are quite well off-my sons friend has a stepfather who is like that-I know a millionaire he has scrimped and scraped to get where he is but he drives a Ford Escort has a lovely house but it looks like a mess!! Inside and out he grows flowers in greenhouses all over his land and sells scrap wood which is everywhere in his yard loads of it-but he buys his clothes from the cheapest shops possible-I find peoples lives fascinating-your friend littleowl

Hi Kiran-the reason he doesnt get expensive things etc is because he doesn't want to be seen as if he has got money also he is 70 and is frightened of losing it-sometimes it dumbfounds me too but in another sense can understand as he started out with nothing and had to work hard for what he has -hugs littleowl

Hello littleowl, great response, that is strange that a millionaire still shops for second hand clothes and sells scrap metal. You would think he would be the most well dressed guy in town and that he wouldn't have to be worrying about selling scrap metal. I have never known a millionaire in my lifetime, wish I was one, lol, I would make the most of it.

I do actually, I do it all the time. Sometimes when I pass really big houses and they look so beautiful and I think I wonder what it is like to live in that house and if the people that do live there appreciate how beautiful their house is. I also look at other people and wonder what it would be like to live a day in their life. If I see girls that obviously have no kids and they are walking about I think what is your life like. It is strange!

It is strange, that's for sure. I had to ask, now I am glad I did, as I am not the only curious cat around. It would be great to live in someone elses shoes for a day. If I had a choice I would like to live in a rich persons shoes with no responsibilities, just for one day, lol. I think sometimes people with alot of money do not always have the happiness that we often think they would have.

I do this a lot. There's one section in my town that is grouped together like a community of it's own. I like talking walks through there just so I can people watch. It's interesting because it seems like everybody has a routine. And they often follow it. I've seen people do the same activities such as riding their bikes, walking their dogs, and sitting on the porch every day like clockwork. It's really interesting.

It is interesting how some people seem to have the same routine day in and day out. I don't really have a particular routine at the moment, I just live each day as it comes. Good to hear I am not the only curious cat, lol. Have a great day.

yeah i always did, i am imagining specially when i saw a wonderful house what i am the one who live that building, will be i am happy? many ideas will come out in my mind when i passed by different houses. i always observe also the design of the house and silently tell myself if ever i earn much and have the opportunity to build different houses i will copy that designs. sound weird but it is true.

I do that sometimes. You think that hey must have such a good life, with their perfect lawns and a big house not an apartment.I work for a family like that, their house is so clean you could eat off their floors. The dog gets walked at the same time everyday, and his feet are wiped before he comes in the house. These people have more money then I care to think about. The three children have everything i always wished I could give my daughter. I take care of the three kids, and judging by them everything is not as it seems in this house. The older boy has many problems, lies cheats steals. He even will insist he broke his leg or his nose and expect me to do something about it when there isn't anything wrong with him.The two younger ones can't even take a walk to the store, without running into peoples yards,or asking a stranger if he is a hobo. They don't seem to know anything about how to talk to people. I don't see the parents interact with these kids much but it sure tells me that they are doing something wrong. All three of these kids have issues in one way or the other. Just my thoughts,it is funny how things can look so god from the outside and be so strange from the inside. Jas

Hi Jasmine, interesting story, that is a perfect real life example that things are not always what they appear on the outside. It seems that these kids do have some issues there, it's a shame. Do they really ask people if they are a hobo? That is shocking, their parents must do that to people. It would be hard working in a place like that I would be envious of their nice house and money, however does not seem like their money buys them happiness. Thanks for sharing your story.
