I have always decorated b-day cakes and stuff like that. Nothing real fancy. My daughter is getting married in August and we started pricing wedding cakes. Man oh Man are they ever expensive. She wanted a big cake, bigger than the amount of people we will have, but there was no way to afford one. They start out at around 2 dollars a slice, we are expecting 200 people and the cake she would like would serve even more. It would cost around 900 hundred dollars. Well we are do it yourself kind of people so I signed us up for cake decrating classes. It was a ton of fun. We all learned some really cool things. I learned that I love decorating cakes. I have made several very pretty ones. It was a lot easier than I thought, but I also no why they charge so much for certain cakes. Using fondant icing is a hands on job and it does take a while to create with it. My daughters cake is going to be 6 tiers with a fountain and 8 stallite cakes around it. It will be beautiful, but way to much cake. The 6 tiers are going to be styrofoam cakes (fake). It will end up costing us even with taking the class around 300 dollars. One cake decrator told us to order a cake this size would start at around 1500 and up. I am way excited to see the end project.

wow that sounds really cool. now that you know how to do it you should go into business. you could make a cake like that for someone else and charge like 1000 dollars, still make a nice profit but undercut all the other cake makers lol. it sounds like it would be a fun thing to learn how to do. i hope your daughter has a beautiful wedding.
