do interventions really work?

i see a lot of families where a few people get together and complain about one and think they need to go all emo and confront the person into changing.. has anyone actually seen this WORK!?!? most of the time it just seems to end up in trying to humiliate the person that everyone has a problem with and it doesnt help at all.. the person may change for a little bit but mostly it seems they try to change to be accepted and not because of the actual issue if its even big enough to be an issue.. dont get me wrong.. there are a lot of problems that may NEED an intervention but i think 90% of the people that do them could have solved the problem with ONE person talking to them about whatever instead of them creating a gang to totally embarrass them into surrender..

Not sure as I have never done one or known anyone to do one. I would think that it would be hugely humiliating to be ganged up on. If that ever happened to me, all it would do is make it worse, not better.
