How do you want to celebrate your next birthday?

June 19, 2008 7:35am CST
My birthday's coming up and I've been so busy with work that I don't even know if I want to celebrate it or not. I am getting to the point of thinking what the big deal is, it's just a day anyway and there's always a lot of pressure of making it 'special' and then more often than not, in the end it just blows up in your face. Anyway I'm just wondering - and perhaps this will take me out of my cynicism - how do you want to celebrate your next birthday? How did you celebrate your last? And really, what's the big deal?

i don't usually celebrate my birthday. i save the money (if i have something to save) for my kids and my wife. 3 of my kids have the same birthday month as i do, so if ever i have the budget, we celebrate our birthdays in just one day. not so expensive way to celebrate our birthdays together...

Hi hopejordan! I'm turning 23 in july. It might sound pretty young but yeah I also can't believe how time just goes so fast! I still think I'm 18 sometimes, haha :) Hope you have a blast on your birthday :)

I don't really like celebrating my birthday, i just have a small party, with just my best friends. Soon is my birthday, and i'm not gonna celebrate it yet, not until next month. I'm gonna have a little grilling party and watching movies eating good food and chips with my friends. That's the ideal party for me. And last year i didn't celebrate my birthday at all, summer was just too busy time, swimming and stuff. So i'm hoping my birthday this year will be a success, altho i don't like celebrating it, it is still important for me :)

Hi Rikza1! Sounds like the kind of thing I'd actually want to do on my birthday. But if you don't mind my asking, if you don't want to celebrate it what makes you want to anyway? :)

i want to celebrate my next birthday in manila.. i want to be with my new friends and my boyfriend.. if given the chance, i would like to spend it in a carnival or maybe in a beach where we can just have some time to enjoy the day.. i dont like it to be so formal, instead i want it to be casual.. i dont want a stiff birthday party.. a simple birthday celebration would be okay for me..

A time comes in everyones life when these things seem to be trivial and innoccuous. The same thing has happened in my life. It doesn`t matter to me anymore whether my b`day is celebrated or not. No, i haven`t become cynical or anything of that sort ,its just that i have become detached from all these formalities. However it does feel nice when people call up and wish me.

i celebrated my last 2 birthdays playing bowling with my loved ones and after that we ate dinner. it was really fun and special since most of us are really busy and we seldom go out altogether at the same time. for me it is a big deal since we all get to allot time from our busy schedules for our loved ones. i want to celebrate my birthday on a beach since it is in the holiday season, and it is usually cold. i have never experience celebrating it at the beach. i want to try something new and odd for my next birthday!

I don't know how exactly yet or where but I'm hoping that I'll be with my family that time. I've always been celebrating my birthday with the rest of them. Well I guess once I did but I was just with my sister that time. So lonely so I won't be liking that kind of party.

For me my birthday is an excuse to laze around the house and not do any cooking. The whole family goes out for dinner on that day if we are working. If it a sunday it will be a day out on the beach or a movie followed ofcourse by a dinner out. BUT DEFINITELY NO COOKING AT HOME.

As much as I wanted too, I don't really like having a celebration on my birthday. I don't want to get tired on my special day. Of course, I have to cook, prepare what has to be prepared. But my husband is the one who forces me. LOL. I celebrated my last birthday with my kids. We went to the mall. On my next birthday, I really wish that I could celebrate it with my husband. I missed him so much on my last 2 birthdays. He is working in Canada right now and hopefully, He will be back next year. I want to celebrate it with him. (2nd honeymoon). LOL.

When i was young,I aways celebrated my birthday with my parent ,as well as o lot of ma classmates. But now i live far away from my parent, and I just get the wishes on the line. But I still celebrate it with my girl and some best friends, going out for dinner ,going out to sing and so on.You are busy, but when your birthday comes, just give youself a day off ,celebrate it with your family, and then you can dive into you job completely, just with out regretting.

Birthdays are fun! I like celebrating mine, because it gives me a chance to get together with my friends and just have an all out good time. This year it will be a little different.. because I just moved out of my state. I have alot of friends here.. so we will see how it goes. My soon to be husband, (i moved here because this is where he is from) is excited, and has plans for my day. My Birthday is monday... and it is my 21st! So.. Im rather excited :). Im not sure what well do.. but i am sure ill at least have a drink or two. birthdays are fun. :)

I've been celebrating my birthday by going to charitable institutions for the past three years. It dawned on me a few years ago that the money I spend treating my friends to lunch or dinner can be better spent in the company of homeless or orphan children. So evry year, I visit an orphanage to celebrate with the kids. I bring balloons, toys, and lots of food for them to enjoy. My friends tag along for the fun which makes it even more rewarding for me. Maybe you can do this as well.

Well this subject is easy for me to answer since my birthday is coming up on Tuesday and everyone keeps asking me what to do, and I have the same answer for each and every one of them - that what I want fo rmy birthday is to do nothing. It is not because im a scrooge, but to be wuite honest, this has been such a trying month, that a relaxing day sounds like a dream. Last year I went out with a bunch of friends, the night before my birthday (since my actual birthday was on a Sunday) and had several drinks. Well no not several, it was more like a lot, so much so that I became sick and continued to feel sick the whole next day ruining my actual birthday. I love birthdays and every year say I don't want to do anything while still being excited, but this year I just want an easy going day all to myself. Is that a lot to ask, afterall, it is MY birthday...lol

You won't believe this, but I'd like to spend my next birthday all by myself, with 1 or 2 favourite books, lots of potato chips, chocolate and ice-cream plus no one to disturb me. I'd really enjoy just that 2 days of peace, away from everyone, but with all the modern facilities around (like TV, internet, etc...)

I would like to have the day alone, to sleep, eat, watch whatever I want on tv and just enjoy some peace and quiet. Everyone needs a break once and awhile, what better day than my birthday.
