My friend has a dog who in my opinion is way to attached too her. If she leaves the apartment for only a few minutes, he paces and cries and goes crazy. Now we found that when it thunders and rains, he goes bezerk. He acts all weird, and starts pacing and circling the floor and then hides, and barks and is almost attached to her leg. She has been reading on things to do to make the dog feel more relaxed when this happens, although I am unsure if it is the thunder or the dogs obsession with her.... She found that she should take one of hers or her live in boyfriends t-shirts an dput it on the dog but tie it so it fits snug and this will make the dog more relaxed. Aldo she ordered pills from her vet that to me are just like human tranquilizers because the dog just passes out. Have you ever heard of or had a dog that behaved this way over some thunder?

I have one dog that if afraid of thunder, and he learned it from our earlier dog which was also afraid of thunder. Thunder is pretty common here at summer, and whenever thunder comes our dog starts walking and follow next to me and hides somewhere where he feels safe. I feel it's normal and you shouldn't be worried about that, my dog doesn't bark, but follows me around. I just scratch him a little and he's ok.

That's what I said to just pet him and let him know everything is ok, but they are on some training kick with the dog because now all of a sudden after having him for several years he is going to the bathroom in the house. So they are trying to enforce certain rules with the dog so he learns from his mistakes. I had a dog myself for 15 years but never experienced this. She was afraid of the rain but that was about it, thunder too a little but she would just come lay down by me and I would cover her witha blanket and she was fine. Thank you for your response.

I feel bad for them. Your not suppose to pet the dog though because it is reinforcing that it is ok to feel like that... tell them to throw a ball around and try to play with him so he associates the thunder with fun!

Awesome answer... I will tell them to try that especially since their dog loves to play ball. Thank you for your response.

My chihuahua barks at the thunder. He stands facing the french doors and just barks and barks and cos he's really little everytime he barks he jumps with it, its quite funny to watch! lol

I feel so bad for them because it seem sit must be very painful to the dogs ears or at least hearing that they all act in the same manner.

My dogs sometimes start barking if the thunder is really bad but they are not as bad as you say your friends is! There is a cd that you can buy on the net somewher that plays different sounds at a really low volume and it is to help nervous dogs get used to loud sounds such as thunder - might be worth checking out for your friend. x
