Are there any real websites that offer free laptops?

We have all seen the ads and gotten the emails for free laptops. Are any of them real? Ive have checked out a few of them and they required me to get referrals and I never got any referrals because people are very cautios of these kind of things. Are there any websites that would give you a free laptop without the referrals?

I have noticed these emails also, offering a free laptop, Television etc, but because I am based in Europe, They don't apply to me, which is a shame, although I have always wondered if they are a scam or genuine ?
When reading the FAQ section and the TOS, though, besides the need to sign up for XYZ and getting referrals, the offer is normally available throughout the United States, except for Ohio. Can anyone explain why the offer cannot be taken up by anyone who resides in the state of Ohio ?
