Feedback - the new rule....

How do you feel about the new rule that sellers can no longer leave neutral or negative feedback for buyers? I have mixed feelings. While I understand that this rule was instated to prevent sellers from leaving retaliatory negative feedback, there are still times when a buyer may not pay...what then?

The only thing that sellers can do is report as item not paid. Isn't that crappy? I have been selling on eBay for less than a year and I am completely unsatisfied, I use to sell about 40 items a month and now I am down to about 6. I am also a buyer and I have out bidded on items and then after the auction ends it comes to me as a second chance offer which means the winning bidder did not pay for the item. I think that new rating system stinks for sellers. eBay only cares about their power sellers as far as I am concerned and I am not a power seller.

I am not saying you are wrong. I sell on ebay. When I run auctions I send 2nd chance offers to any reasonable bid. But if you are bidding on a used pair of shoes then that is different.

I sell and buy on Ebay but didn't know about this new rule, I have been giving mysef a bit of a rest from Ebay after going through a spell of not selling quite a few things, hmmm not much point in having any feedback then i dob't think.

Buyers can still post positive, neutral or negative for sellers. But sellers only have the ability to post positive or nothing at all. I can understand, as I said, the need for preventing 'retaliatory' negative feedback. If the item wasn't as posted, etc., and the buyer posted negative for the seller, then the seller may post a negative right back in retaliation. But when there is a legitimate problem with the buyer they should at least be able to post a neutral with a comment. I've read in the forums that some buyers are resorting to posting positive feedback with a negative comment. It's crazy.

Well I think that is a little one sided, both seller and buyer should be assured by feedback, I am going off Ebay very fast...

I guess ebay is trying to tell buyers that it is ok to not pay. Only sellers have to pay. I sell on ebay. If I buy something I don't leave feedback. If feedback for a buyer is only positive then why bother. As a powerseller I am debating whether or not to leave feedback. It is pointless. The new ebay should only have feedback for sellers if a seller can not leave neg or neutral feedback.

Haha, it's not only in ebay.com but it's world wide. We can't even do that anymore in ebay.com.my ( Malaysia ) I really think they are just plain lazy to respond to complaints & by doing so hope to cut down all that workload. Like I responded to a thread earlier, the joybidding rate in our place is quite high. By removing the ability to leave a negative, even a neutral feedback has really made these loonies go wild. They just bid a whole lot of your stuff & just disappear & they sign up with different accounts almost everyday & create havoc. At least that was my experience eralier, thank God it's over now. But still there are people who never read the rules & just bid then never respond even after sending in an unpaid dispute

I don;t like this new ruling. It's dumb. Cos when the person dosnot respond or pay we have to wait 7 days before we can report an unpaid item. It;s time wasting and silly.

I don't know if anyone else has read about this on ebay boards but it has certainly been going on in the uk. A buyer will buy and pay for an item and then when it has arrived they will withhold feedback and email the seller to negotiate a refund of some sort in return for not leaving a negative, this of course is blackmail but it is happening of course for some sellers they don't have much option because along with the feedback changes there is also the quick suspension for sellers who ( seemingly ) are not performing well enough so all you need now is 2-3 bad buyers who either don't wanna pay or want the item plus the money and bang ur suspended. The whole thing that ebay have done sucks big time, they are not thinking about the little sellers in any way shape or form all they are thinking about is making the site a place for power sellers who sell at retail price. ebay have shot themselves well and truely in the foot this time and alot of sellers are leaving ebay and moving over to ebid and other auction sites, the days of ebay being the place you could get a good bargain from and make a little back on your old clutter are fading fast. Ebay are a bunch of greedy stupid muppets but they'll learn and then they will have to come crawling back to the sellers with their tails between their legs.
