ways in buying a house

me and my husband is planning to buy a house and lot, my husband likes the idea of buying a old house and renovate it later in the future, but my only concern is me myself and even my husband have no any idea of what will be the best ways to consider in buying house, so I'm asking your ways and means of buying a property, what will be the main concern to consider?

I think its better not to buy an old house,because renovating it again can cost a lot of money.
I suggest that,before buying a house, make sure that the quaility of the house is at the peak! :)
Dont just buy a house that are affordable, but buy a house that can last much longer.
Make sure that its also Legal, i mean, the papers are authorized.
