Freshflow drinking fountain: Don't buy!

I have a Freshflow drinking fountain for my cat and the pump broke yet again. This is the second Freshflow that I've had in 5 years and the second to break down. Piece of crap. It's super hard to clean, gets a gross residue in tough corners and the pumps break down all the time. I've spent from $30 - $40 for each system plus $4 a month for filters. I'm so mad that it broke down yet again. The pumps are about $22 to replace. And I'm so glad that this one broke down when it did because I noticed that the coating had cracked and it had exposed wires!!! In my cat's water... exposed wires! Not cool. The cat won't drink much from anywhere else. She'll only drink from her freshflow or I have to tip bottled water down for her to sip from or tip a glass with bottled or filtered water for her. It's really rare that she'll drink tap water. She won't drink off a bowl on the floor like a normal animal either. So my fault for raising her to think she's people! LOL. So I'm going to have to run around to pet shops and see who has a cheap submersible pump that I can stick in her freshflow. I've looked into the Drinkwell fountain and though it's more expensive, it's easier to clean and comes with a cleaning kit plus a bunch of add ons. I think I should've just gone with that one from the get go. Going the cheap route has ended up costing me more than double the expensive one would have been. So just throwing the FYI out there... the Freshflow isn't worth the money and apparently not safe or well made either.

Have you tried emailing the company?? I nicely worded email explaining you problem. Take what you've writen here and make it a pretty sounding so the company will take you seriously. You never know what might happen. I got a new vacuum this way :) On another note, my cat would end up just playing with the water instead of drinking it. I had one that you put the water in and it comes out on it's own when the level went down. My cat played with it to see the bubbles lol...

I tried doing that the first time and got the response that they sell the replacement parts. They sell the part for double what it is sold everywhere else. It's a badly made item though, not just the pump but the whole thing. As soon as I can afford the better brand I will.

Poor baby cat! I know about finicky cats that get into those habits. My cats prefer cold refrigerated bottle water too. As for your cat drinking fountain, I've never seen it, but won't buy it now, even if I do! Can you put ice cubes into the machine, so that the water melts gradually and is still cold? You could use fresh bottle or jug water from the store. The taste of the water is always nice, not like tap water. I don't know if you could get ice into those things. So, just a suggestion. P.S. I lived in a similar area, so I'm more than familiar with the bad tasting water! Yuck. I don't blame your kitty. That stuff used to make me sick.

Tigger drinking out of the Drinkwell Fountain. - He just HAS to drink it right where the water comes out at and not the dish.
I bought the Big Dog Drinkwell for my dog and 3 cats about a year ago and have had no problems with it whatsoever. The cats love it and my one cat will only drink out of the part that the water is flowing from, never the dish. My dog had some adjusting to do cause he hates water and was so afraid the water was going to splash on his nose if he tried to take a drink. lol You will be very happy with the Drinkwell, gmakesmoney. I sure am! btw..reason why all the towels/rags are down around the unit is because Tigger's old pal, Lightning, LOVED playing in the water and would make a huge mess even if he didn't want a drink.

Thanks for letting us know.I will not by that now. As you can tell from my avatar my cat drinks out of the swimming pool. What you need to get is a swimming pool and she will be a happy camper. LOL
