How do you relieve back pain?

I woke up yesterday with my back hurting. My upper back, not my lower back. I'm pretty sure I ended up sleeping wrong or something which has caused all of the trouble but I'm not really sure anymore. I just know my back hurts. I haven't been able to get much relief other than taking an ibuprofen when it really starts to hurt. Do you have any good remedies for back pain? Anything other than just laying in bed all day and over the counter pain meds?

Laying in bed is probably the best relief. I do find a massage is helpful. I do some streaching exercises, I go to the point of pain. I suggest you do some of the streaching exercises after taking an anti-inflamatory medications. Then lay down, on your back, for a short time.

I usually take a pain pill and then have my husband rub some smelly muscle rub on if I cn talk him into it since he hates the smell of it. After rubbing it in a few times it helps some. If not then I usually get the massager and use it till it feels better. If not I deal with it.

One of the best ways that I have found to relieve back pain is by sitting in really warm waer, et a bathtub, or a hot tub. We hae a hot tub in our back yard in Arizona, and when my husband would have back pain he'd sit out there for relief.

A good way to get rid of back pain is to do some yoga - meditation. It is very relieving, it makes you feel very fresh. Just try it, you will feel so good.
