How is the new iPhone so cheap?

Can anyone tell how is the iPhone so cheap. I mean just $199. Is Apple using substandard quality parts or has Steve Jobs brought another bright idea. This is one question which continues to baffle me.

the reason it's so cheap is none of it is NEW technology... basicly if you have a cellphone and an ipod you dont NEED an Iphone..... it doesnt do anything that you cant do with an ipod and a REALLY cheap cell phone
