Should we go with a just a dvd player or go blu-ray player?

Hi everyone,
Just read a aritcle that said that blu ray was going to surpass dvd's by next election day. So if this is true and blu ray is taking over, should we go ahead and buy a blu ray player or just get a dvd player and wait for the prices to drop on the blu ray player. What do you all think? I have a cheap DVD player. I don't use it too often because I have tons of cable channels and it is more convenient for me to pay the $4.00 for Pay Per View than spend the $10.00 in gas to go to a video store. If I was a person who watched a lot of movies that way, however I would go with Blu-Ray. The trend seems to be heading that way.
