University of the Philippines is the state univ. here in the philippines. As i am concern it's a school for the poor and deserving students. But now as we can see, many students there came from exclusive school.. well life is changing. well check out this site. www.topuniversities.com UP is currently on 398 as far as i concern. In my opinion, Ateneo has been the toughest school when it comes to entrance exams.. some students failed in ADMU test yet they passed in UP. Indeed, entering in ADMU is so difficult..

Hmmm I think UP is for Class A Citizens now. I was a state scholar when I entered college. My classmated were from the C Families. The canteens in UP before is costumized pro-poor students. I recently visited UP and noticed that there are a lot of them who attends classes with their notebooks, laptops, ipod, nano etc. I also have headturned on the beautiful cars. I did not realize having been in UP without my blood dripping Entrance Test the UPCAT. I made it at the ACET, too but UP Entrance test was the most difficult. It was as if I had a repeat exam for DOST. That was tough. I think recently UP is becoming commercialized. The UP Wet Market area is now a BPO and Trade Center. Why oh why? Ahaaa...the deterioration of UP discipline in the academe might have suffered when our economy have flanked at its worst. UP is now leasing more areas for commercial concessionaires to be able to earn money to support our state scholars. I've noticed that there are infrastructures built that may augment UP Income. UP is subsidized by the government. Wondering why it turned out to be a school for the Elite now, budget wise, they welcome students who can afford to pay tuition fees at its ceiling.

The problem really with UP is that the government really won't give it the budget that it needs anymore. So what's left for UP to do is to earn money for itself by actually leasing its land so that it would have more income. It's really sad but true that the government is actually not paying attention to the premier university in the country.

The Problem actually with the University is the STFAP or Socialized Tuition Fee Assistance Program, wherein your classification is based on the income of your parents. Because this system has a lot of defects we see more and more students who are actually well-off than those who are poor. In this system most of the time the students are classified into the wrong category. Also this system is so strict that most of the students are being placed in a higher classification and sometimes the parents can't afford anymore to pay for their tuition fee. A classic example is when you are included in the lowest bracket wherein all your fees are waived, however if they found out that you were able to buy a cellphone chances are you will be moved to a higher bracket. What I'm trying to say is that sometimes the classification seems to be unreal because if you would look at it a cellphone is really necessary especially if a student needs to do group work or whatsoever. I'm just hoping that someday the government would give UP the proper budget that it needs so that there would be more intelligent but less privileged students who could study at the country's premier University.
