Is Gareth Barry worth buying for Liverpool?

Benitez has made it clear that he intend to sign Barry as a Liverpool player coming this season. However, O'Neil is not letting go his prized captain for a cheap price. It was rumored that the transaction, if successful can go up to 18 million, slightly lower than Torres.
In your opinion, do you think Barry worth so much? Definitely Mascherano is worth that much with his fearless tackle and commitment on the field. How about Barry?

Barry knows how Gerrard is playing. He knows when Gerrard likes to have the ball. He knows how Gerrard is going to sprint. That's why Gerrard wants him so much. As I recall, during a friendly match of English International Team this year, Barry's subtitution anteceded his Assist for Gerrard by 1 minute.

he is a very fantastic player and he is an English, I think Benitez has made the right choice to buy him.
I have read an article that he is eager to join liverpool and I hope that he will wear the reds jersey this coming season.
