How do you decide where you stay ?

What factors influence you when you decide to choose a locality or neighbourhood to stay in ?
I know most would say the cost or rent. But there are factors like distances, safety and so on.

I stay where I do because of the price& location..I am on a very fixed income. I live on social security disibility I can not afford to pay a high payment to live anywhere. My parents had this house and were moving out of state, They wanted to make sure I had a place to live, so they sold it to me. I payed them payements for 10 years. Now it is payed for.
