a pet's name by any other name...

I recently acquired a new puppy and I am so excited to give him a name. I now share the excitement with my son. In choosing names for pets, I usually name them after my favorite movie star or scientist or cartoon character, depending on the characteristics I see from my pets.
For example, when I was younger I named my dog after the famous gymnast Nadia Comeneci because she was fond of jumping and flexing her body when she greets me. Then we had a pair of african parakeets which I named Luke Skywalker and Princess Lea, because I was into Star Wars at the time.
So, how do you name your pets? Do you name them like I do?

I usually give my pets strange names. I use whatever pops into my head when I interact with them. My bird is named Toes because that's what I feel when she sits on me.
